nevertheless. Obama and Hillary only withdrew their support for 'Marriage = One man, One woman' after they realized they could profit politically by flip-flopping.

Maybe you need to better prioritize exactly what roads you need?
We don't need roads. The state is ginormous. Roads are less efficient and would be too costly to maintain relative to sea and air travel in this state. Idiots down south don't understand this. They see a subsidized ferry system and a subsidized air service program and immediately assume it's wasteful and that we should just get in our cars and drive to where we want to go. They have no concept of the geography of the state or the costs of the road systems they take for granted. Air and sea are our highways and road systems. We have those instead of vast networks of roads and highways.

Why, it was in response to your OP, and in particular, the last line of your OP: "doubt this will make it through the Republican-controlled Congress, given how many rural votes feed their party. Alaska in particular depends on this, given we do not have road systems connecting our communities to everywhere else."

Yeah, I get all that. I do understand the sheer size of Alaska. I am NOT objecting to your subsidized air service program. I AM pointing out, however, that you have had some politicians up there in Alaska who have come to be considered as KINGS of pork-barrel spending. Don Young and Sarah Palin both seem to fit that mold.

A ridiculous and absurd analogy. Obama and Hillary both underwent an EVOLUTION in their thinking on gay rights. PRECISELY as many millions of OTHER Americans did. This has NOTHING to do with the kind of pork-barrel spending by politicians like Sarah Palin. What a WEAK and FEEBLE argument on your part. Can't you do any better than THAT?!!??

Rural Alaskan communities are struggling as it is, mainly because they're prohibited (by the feds) from accessing or developing their lands. Quid pro quo, if you want rural places to self-sustain, you can't prohibit them from doing the types of things that would allow them to do so.

The need for support goes away when you let them develop their economies first. You don't deprive the support and tell them "do it yourself" when regulations say "by the way you're prohibited from doing it yourself." That's just a roundabout way of killing rural communities.
You voted for Trump! Your problem.

Lulz. Yes, we get it...only morally and intellectually superior leftists are permitted to "evolve" on potentially politically profitable social issues...those unevolved, unenlightened right-wingers aren't allowed to reevaluate the costs versus benefit of infrastructure proposals and change their minds.

No, but that was certainly a consideration. They LIKE MOST OF US came about it over a process, like Obama. (Biden got there earlier). Not to mention the LAW which seemed to get in the way for a couple of decades.

4.6% of the population is gay. And NOT ALL WILL MARRY! How in the hell will those who do affect my life or YOURS one iota? Let 'em! Hope they are happy and healthy.

OOOOOH! You missed the 'BIG PORKER'. Look up Ted Stevens, Alaska. In fact didn't he do jail time?? Head of the Ways and Means Committee. He could pork the shit out of any bill that came across his desk. And apparently did! Not to mention his LOCAL graft and corruption and payoffs within Alaska.
