    The new Reuters/Ipsos was reported later this afternoon and it also has Trump's approval down at 39. A four point drop in the past week. He's tied for his lowest average approval since he was elected -- 39.8.

    I'll take this as the main explanation:
    Still, the demographics of military veterans are a factor in Trump’s higher approval ratings among this group. Compared with the public as a whole, veterans are more likely to be male, white and older – all demographics in which support for Trump tends to be higher.

    Had always been under the impression that veterans weren't as conservative as when they were enlisted. Have heard many claim that when they got out they tended to move more towards the center and some even ended up being more pacifistic and less likely to desire combat and big defense increases.
