I agree to an extent. It's how my mother was more informed than anyone in my family and how my father partly stays informed. If one ignores PBS one is missing ALOT.

You can't listen to it in the background though. At least the programs I've tuned into don't drone the same things over and over hour after hour.

    One has to pay attention!

After the election I stopped watching cable news as it is what it is. I tune in once or twice a week for breaking news. I really don't see MSNBC, CNN, or Fox as news. I see them as opinion shows (aka OpEd) except when there is breaking news.
FOX is the same as the others. It's irritating the way they try and say they are separate from MSM. They just have a different political bent.

But another thing I feel people constantly forget is that Dems and Reps are two sides of the same coin on many of the biggest issues.

Take the war in Syria. FOX is not any better regarding regurgitating falsehoods regarding Assad to get us in the mindset of war. Same for the Iraq War the other way around.

If I had worked where the boss kept the TV on Fox, I imagine the tube would have mysteriously stop working.

Some of us are smart enough to read between the lines of these shows and extract what we deem important in our lives and the things affecting our country. But all you fake media subscribers can't seem to do that. That includes your President who watches Fox and Friends and makes decisions that matter a whole lot based on that real fake news.

Sure all media outlets have a political bent. That's what advertisers demand but that doesn't make every word uttered on every show unreliable. For educated folks they are both news and entertainment but it's only Fox that constantly claims a fair and balanced approach to the news while delivering very little of it and a very strong right leaning viewpoint.

I was disgusted by the Fox News video of the MOAB exploding while some redneck bullshit music was accompanying it. The purpose was clearly to excite the base which they know is made up of uneducated and easily manipulated folks who seem to like the whole idea of war and think it's okay that their guy said "we've got nukes, why not use 'em?" No matter what one may think of MSNBC or CNN, they took an analytical view of that event and did a fair job of laying out the options in how to interpret for one's self. Even the Trump Russia connection story would not be as far developed if not for those networks because they are not a branch of the party in the same way.

While Comey and the House Intel chair were misdirecting the investigations, Those networks, CNN and MSNBC dug for the real meaning behind midnite visits to the White House etc. Fox saw nothing to be concerned about.

Also, the percentage of GOP insiders that either came from the Fox Network or became hosts of so-called news shows should raise flags with the audience but, since we see just who that audience is, it's not surprising that viewers still believe the Fair and Balanced horseshit

any network that has to tell it's viewers it's "fair and balanced" probably isn't.

I can hardly understand how any of you could even tolerate listening to this shit, much less find meaning and entertainment in it.

I have an idea which of you have this shit playing 24/7. And I can say, now I understand why you start countless threads fixating obsessively on Trump. It's because you are feeding this shit to your brain around the clock.

What I don't understand is why you keep doing it, and why you haven't snapped out of it and realized you need to turn this shit off. It's exhausting.
You listen to what? Little voices in your head? I don't listen/watch to CNN or any "news" outlets on a regular basis, but listen to many to try to figure out a center, but your description fits well with other "news media" that label themselves as "conservative" or even "fair and balanced".

Why do people who are "not paranoid", feel a need to keep a firearm on their person or next to them, 24/7, in their OWN country? What are they afraid of? "Liberals"??

Here, anyone, "conservative" or "liberal" can label media as they see it. Call it, "audience bias".

See? Now there you go calling Fox News, news. It's as far as one can get from journalism. That's why they've had the likes of Bill O Reilly and Glenn Beck and others have Dan Rather and George Will. The only guy on that network that seems to have a shred of integrity is Chris Wallace. I don't know how he can stand being there sometime. But, I'm thankful that he is. Other networks may have a liberal bent but Fox has a redneck broken. Is that a sentence? I think it might be, I'll check with the editors over at Fox. Surely they will have the answers.

The measure of any cable 24/7 news outlet is whether they can do straight news as part of their lineup because they cannot pay for their 24/7 news overhead with straight news.

I have seen straight news on all the cable TV outlets. If a piece is interesting and informative I will watch it. If they are banging the drum and the journalism is bad, I am gone.

CNN has had good election night coverage.

MSNBC's morning Joe does a decent deconstruct of news with multiple viewpoints.

And after Benghazi, the 10/12/2012 report on the timeline turned out to be the most accurate, proven after the election when all the other networks decided their preferred candidate was safe and they could become journalists again.
