How many of you actually watch CNN and MSNBC?

I don't have cable TV. I'm taking a long weekend vacation in the big city. CNN and MSNBC are on in the background. It sounds like listening to the obsessive paranoia of someone with severe and chronic mental illness. I can hardly understand how any of you could even tolerate listening to this shit, much less find meaning and entertainment in it.

I have an idea which of you have this shit playing 24/7. And I can say, now I understand why you start countless threads fixating obsessively on Trump. It's because you are feeding this shit to your brain around the clock.

What I don't understand is why you keep doing it, and why you haven't snapped out of it and realized you need to turn this shit off. It's exhausting.

I hate watch them sometimes like I do with the Young Turks.

    I agree 100%

There's a tv at work in the break room and it sometimes gets switched to CNN. It's like a wild pack of hysterical lunatics. It's INSANE. It's like Al Bundy and Homer Simpson made a news program.

And that's CNN. The one that's actually trying. The one that has a dim memory of integrity.

I can't even imagine what the other two would be like to have on as background.

I like Morning Joe. Though most of the commentators are lefties. You can get some of the same effect with the opposite spin by watching the 5. These are brisk, semi-journalistic ping pong games.

But for background listening I prefer CSPAN's morning call in show, Washington Journal, which is more journalistic and less noisy.

When I am on the road, it's NPR for interesting stories and right wing talk to get my own biases reinforced. Though I prefer Jim Visevich to Limbaugh.

On the left, Colin McEnroe is the best of the left. He did a show the day George Harrison died that was radio perfection.

    Speaking of alternate realities ....

My name is Licorice, and I am a hamster.I have never shared my story before because, frankly, sometimes all a hamster has is his privacy. Thursday night, however, Alexandra Kerry described the circumstances of my rescue by her father after I had fallen off a pier in Massachusetts.
I have come forward now to set the record straight.

I was the hamster of Alexandra's sister, Vanessa, and she, on balance, was a good person, although a bit of a tickler. On this occasion, as the family gathered on the pier to depart for a vacation, somebody -- I'm not saying it was Alexandra; I'm not saying it was on purpose -- ''bumped'' my cage, and the next thing I knew, I was in the water and sinking fast. I saw my whole life pass before my eyes. My life has not been all that interesting, so it wasn't exactly like watching ''The Godfather I and II.'' I mean, I'm a hamster. I could see a bright light, but I seemed to be on a wheel that rotated as I ran, so I never got any closer. But I was aware of a shining, all-loving divine rodent presence telling me: ''It's not time yet. You have more to do on earth.'' ''Like what?'' I asked, but I could already feel myself back in my body, could feel strong hands yanking open my cage and pulling me upward to safety. Yes, it was John Kerry. Help was on the way. Yes, he did perform CPR. Yes, he did perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. There is no doubt that I owe him my life. On the other hand, the water went up to his chest, O.K.? I mean, this wasn't exactly PT-109.

I don't have cable TV and don't watch CNN or MSNBC. I do watch about 15 minutes of CBSN a day. Sometimes Reuters TV for about 10 minutes. Right now I'm watching SkyNews and they're going on about Turkey's politics. I sometimes catch BBC news. I get most of my news by reading it. Everything from the blogger Kevin Drum at Mother Jones to the NYT to the WashPo to The Independent in the UK and The Guardian and The New Yorker and the Atlantic and Vox and news aggregators like Google news. After watching and reading all I have I know Trump is a disaster waiting to happen. Mark my words.
