Its part of documenting evidence by telling someone else your account of the meeting or phone call as close to the evident as possible. Comey is smart, he has probably recorded who the person or persons were he told and has details like the time and place he told them.
Time will tell. His **s will be grass if he didn't report it to the DOJ.

He might get legally exonerated (on this topic), but not morally. The perception of Trump being shady and dishonest and arrogant, will remain.

And if there's one thing we've learned in last year's election, facts don't elect our President anymore, perception does.
Maybe President Trump was only trying to convince Comey that something to the effect of " Hey, you gave it your all. Now just admit it, there is no case to be made here."

Or maybe knowing how Trump loves to fire people he thought he would just let Trump step on his own dick.

Growing calls for Comey to testify before Congress. The Senate and House still have their investigations going. They want Comey to testify publicly. Comey had refused to testify privately because he felt his words would be twisted..
Keep In mind Jason Chaffetz published Comey's private letter about Clinton. He does not trust them with good reason. Comey can now tell all to Meuller without that worry. But he can still testify openly to Congress. They want that.

I go with your idea, not the other one. Trump did. Now,the info is pouring out fast and furious. Trump knew Flynn was under investigation when he hired Flynn to be National Security Officer.

    Nope. But nice try

Second, and more fundamentally, Jarrett's op-ed implies that the obligation to report runs specifically to Justice Department prosecutors. That's not what the statute says, however, and of course the more obvious recipients for any such notificiations would be...the FBI. Jim Comey was, of course, FBI Director at all relevant times, and deeply engaged in supervision of existing, related criminal (and probably also counterintelligence) investigations. It's more than a stretch to suggest that the misprision statute somehow creates a "two-person" requirement for knowledge of possible federal crimes, such that it is not enough for one FBI person to be aware of the possible criminal behavior. A "crooked cop" scenario would of course be different, but no one is alleging (nor could they) that Jim Comey was in cahoots with a plan to obstruct the Flynn investigation.

But I also made a mistake. I thought I had seen in an article where Comey had reported it to a few select members of the DOJ. I got that wrong.

Um but then he fired Comey. So, there is your obstruction of Justice.

Donald John Trump is under federal criminal investigation, Special Prosecutor Mueller can go anywhere he wishes and subpoena any information he wishes.

...and when the Republicans colluded to bring Hillary Clinton's poll numbers down, they used the Benghazi hearings to make a case for her email server and use of classified material.

How do you know he didn't? Just because you didn't hear about it on Fox and Friends does not mean it did not happen.

We have no idea what actions Comey took other than taking notes for every encounter he had with Donald J. Trump.
