China will never allow a US war in their area anymore than we'd allow Canada to be bombed by another country. China is what we need to be watching as they may be nuanced but they mean business.

disagree. China is rattling their verbal sabres as well.. yes. But mostly because they're pissed that the world does not let them annex the pacific ocean just like that.

As for international law, those islands that China is complaining about, and what they call "South China sea", is still international territory, and is NOT Chinese land, or property, therefore they have no exclusive sea rights either.

If missiles are launched towards Guam, do we attempt to shoot them down?

So, here's my question. Let us say that we detect a North Korean missile launched in the general direction of Guam. Let us further imagine that said missile falls rather short, and drops relatively harmlessly into the sea. So. Do we just assume this was another of L'il Kim's missile tests, or do we assume that it was L'il Kim attempting to follow through on his threat, and failing? And, if we assume the latter, what do we do about it? I mean, we don't have a lot of historical precedence for a failed attack on the US, or one of its territories.

Take Pearl Harbour, for instance. Had the attack from Japan been a miserable failure, would we have still entered into WW II? I'm not being sarcastic, here. This really is a plausible suggestion of things to come. So, if L'il Kim attempts to attack us, and fails, what would our likely response be?

lil kim will play with his toys. We in turn will destroy his country.

The question is not about lil kim or trump.... the wild cards are china and russia. What will they do.....

Would be dumb of them, making the US and our allies angry cuts off their economy. Who else would buy their stuff? That would be shooting themselves in the foot.

And so on. I sure hope someone in this administration knows what the fuck they're doing.
There is no way to know what NK will do in response to any action we take. Is there such a thing as a limited engagement with NK? If we engage NK will NK attack SK, thus expanding this whole thing? No one knows for sure. What would China & Russia do? China would like to keep trading with us and the west.

That sounds like driving towards a cliff and thinking that everything is fine right up until you start falling. By the time that your car is falling, you are not going to fix the problem anymore.

This is today and China is not hiding where they stand. Today's news:

"China warns Donald Trump not to 'play with fire' as US-North Korea tensions escalate

State-run media said 'any accidental spark could trigger a conflict and prove to be a disaster'"

Law is law. Reality is reality.

By international law, at least far as US is concerned, Crimea is still a part of Ukraine; and my dear homeland Abkhazia - a part of Georgia.

But that doesn't seem to matter, in practical terms, does it?
