You can't keep jailing fathers for having less than an ounce of marijuana for five to eight years, without an impact on the family.

This is one of the biggest contributors to what we see in our inner cities, and if you want to point to a single program that can be cited for contributing to the increase in police violence, and unjust arrests, the cops program is the number one culprit. Petaluma California was a reasonable crime free town until their town fathers cut the police budget and engaged the cops program; if you see an uptick in crime, you are going to get money from the feds; so the town created their own crisis to backfill the financial vacuum; they sent undercover detectives into their schools to entrap kids into buying and selling weed; one kid was autistic, and his parents fought it tooth and nail.

I do, am against programs that "don't work" and by all accounts, the war on drugs has been an abysmal failure as well as the cops program.

I blame the war on drugs on Nixon

I blame the cops program on Clinton.

Get rid of them, they don't work.
We definitely agree about the lost war on drugs. We must change our approach to illicit drugs. Regarding the cops program, I am not familiar with it, so I am in no position to comment.

I really do not know, and have not thought about it. I mean, now I am thinking about it. If I remember, I will ask ... there is a local rabbi who is of Moroccan descent and speaks (I believe) both Spanish and Ladino, and he would certainly know. Trouble is, I will not see him until at least Sunday, by which time I will probably have forgotten. You know, memory is the second thing to go....
Thank you,Ian.our Pastor presented the question to make us think.

Men writing the Bible made God a man. I agree with you.

yeah, politicians pretty much have a lot of voters trained. One of the best examples of this is voter fraud laws. Ordinarily, you'd think that would be something that wasn't a partisan issue. If legitimate voters are being turned away at the polls you'd think that it would outrage every American. But, since so many right-wingers have been conditioned to go along with what ever the party does it's not. Same with things like climate control, Immigration, civil rights, etc.

Biggest one is healthcare. Where somehow the GOP convinced people to support policies that were against their own interest. They convinced people to hate Obamacare until the time came to actually repeal it. Then, all of the sudden the people that put them in office running on repealing it rebelled.

The media has shifted it's role in all of this over the last few decades. Instead of merely reporting the news. They engage in propaganda meant to sway opinions.
    Thanks from MaryAnne and Panzareta

You should read about it, it's been twisted and used for financial purposes; I understand the inception and the intent was good, but the use has become corrupted.

here's an article, sorry I said Petaluma it was actually Temecula:

Very illuminating, the war on drugs tells me one thing after forty years; drugs are winning.

Most cultures started out worshiping a female god -- giver of life -- and the evidence for this are the goddess artifacts found all over the world and dating back at least 35,000 years. It was only about 4000 years ago that a monotheist male god was introduced.

I did not say anything like that. The use in the Torah of the masculine pronoun does not render G-d a man. At least, not as Jews read it, precisely because it would make no sense. I think it might be more accurate to say, however, that men reading parts of the Bible may render G-d as a man, but that is not the same thing.

Less than that, really, since G-d in Judaism is neither male or female. That construction came much later.

If you are interested in the evolution of worship, try Vardis Fishers excellent series called "The testament of man". I strongly recommend them to anyone interested in the development of religion over thousands of years. You can find it on Amazon in paper back, it was his masterpiece.
