In fact, Socrates never wrote anything because he was illiterate. It was Plato's generation that adopted writing prose as a regular practice. Socrates was real and was Plato's teacher, but Plato wrote all of the dialogues where Socrates is a character. Plato wrote his dialogues as advertisements for his school.

Reuters is mainstream. And they're excellent. And American.
The BBC and RT are pretty good too but they are far from being independent.

If anyone on a political forum has changed your mind about anything, pat yourself on the back. you are probably the first and only.

I used to be a libertarian conservative.

Socrates was credited with a few papers but it was obvious they were written by Plato.

Who credits them? Which ones? The Apology is more monologue than dialogue, and who knows perhaps Plato constructed it partly from arguments Socrates actually made, but I think crediting Socrates with any writings is a historical confusion.

No, I was a member of a union since I was 22. It was having to make the kinds of arguments libertarians ultimately make that embarrassed me into becoming a liberal. "Let the Big Dog Eat" is a stupid and self-defeating philosophy.

The Big Dog is going to eat, regardless.

I'm going on 40 years of memory but Plato did make an attempt to legitimize Socrates as a real person but Socrates would never apologize or commit suicide. It was Plato who was unable to live with the fact that Greece rejected his call for a monotheist state god. Plato was a lot like Trump when it comes to being loved by the people.
