    What is white culture?

I see in other threads it is said there is no such thing. Only minority groups can be said to have a culture? Anyway, here is a start. What Wiki has to say:

From their earliest presence in North America, White Americans have contributed literature, art, cinema, religion, agricultural skills, foods, science and technology, fashion and clothing styles, music, language, legal system, political system, and social and technological innovation to American culture. White American culture derived its earliest influences from English, Scottish, Welsh, and Irish settlers and is quantitatively the largest proportion of American culture.[58] The overall American culture reflects White American culture. The culture has been developing since long before the United States formed a separate country. Much of American culture shows influences from English culture. Colonial ties to Great Britain spread the English language, legal system and other cultural attributes

There are many definitions and ways to break it down.

Basically it goes back to Americanization where all white immigrants came together to form a new nation. They cast their culture aside for a new one basically.

You can nitpick it and say other races were involved, and they were, but it was mostly whites who braved the New World and then fought for independence.

Those events in history formed a new culture that is America and other events throughout the years have added to it.

Call in Manifest Destiny in a way if you will.

Some people believe that this "culture" is threatened with immigration.

People fear that minorities will tear down what the whites created.

They are wrong of course but that's the main reason why.

People here are saying there is no such thing. Only minorities have cultures. Which is odd, in a country where the dominant culture is white. Something of great concern to so many.

I don't know about "white culture," but "American Ideals" and "The American Dream" were fostered by the movie moguls...

    Thx

America is unique, similar to Australia actually.

We have our own culture mainly due to the fact that we are separated from other cultures. It is that removal that has caused us to create our own unlike many nations in Europe who are constantly bombarded from multiple influences.

As generations progress in America those old cultures fade away. In Europe people have more contact with their original culture so tend to keep it longer.

For example, I have a lot of Irish in me but I don't identify with them at all, I identify as American. In Europe they would hold on to those roots longer.

This is a main reason why nationalism causes so many problems over there.

Germany, France, Italy, Czech Republic, Norway, Great Britain, Lithuania... pick one.

Because most "proud" white Americans will talk endlessly about their O-so interesting gene pool and about ancestors they've never met from storied lane in "the old country."

Most African Americans, on the other hand, can tell you vaguely which part of the American south their Anglo-Germanic surname came from.

    Get it?

I always have to kind of stare like Don Rickles* at anyone who can't grasp this, while suggesting they're getting short-shrift as a white person.

    *Thanks, Knight.

I most certainly agree that there is an American culture. But that's not the same as a white culture.

But that's not one culture. That's American culture. I think American culture includes African culture as well as European culture and Caribbean and Hispanic. You still haven't defined white culture.

But you do make an allowance for a black culture within that American culture. You have to have someone you are separating from to do that. Which would be the predominant culture, which is white.
