People don't go to emergency rooms for checkups.

Those that do are covered under my state taxes, not federal.

We in Arizona already have a program for that which is still here but on top of that we also would have to pay for universal coverage.

That's an additional expense, not less.
State taxes and not federal? what does AZ do with all the money they get from the feds for medicaid? Just because the state allocates it doesn't mean they pay for it.
    Thanks from Friday13

Pay for all the snowbirds who fly down here every winter and drive 20 mph.

    Not even close.

Pick one nation with universal healthcare that has a lower tax rate than us.
of course taxes would go up but that premium disappears, you keep forgetting that. It's over $20,000/yr for some families

And those of us without families get stuck paying for them.

    No thank you.

Their insurance is not my responsibility.

You wanted to have kids so you pay for it, don't ask me to do it.

There are fewer physicians per person than in most other OECD countries. In 2010, for instance, the U.S. had 2.4 practicing physicians per 1,000 people ó well below below the OECD average of 3.1.

The number of hospital beds in the U.S. was 2.6 per 1,000 population in 2009, lower than the OECD average of 3.4 beds.

Life expectancy at birth increased by almost nine years between 1960 and 2010, but thatís less than the increase of over 15 years in Japan and over 11 years on average in OECD countries. The average American now lives 78.7 years in 2010, more than one year below the average of 79.8 years.

You're already paying MORE for LESS than nearly every other country with universal healthcare. It's just that your not paying this cost in tax dollars. As noted in the statistics above, we have fewer physicians per 1000 people, fewer hospital beds per 1000 people, and despite a higher rate of healthcare spending, our outcomes are in most cases worse than those other countries.

For fuck's sake, @Rorschach! Under nearly every private insurance company in America today, and indeed, under Medicare as well, plastic surgery and sex change operations are not covered. they are considered elective surgery, and you need to pay for such things out of pocket.

Now, I don't know what you mean by "other treatments for the indigent". Perhaps you could elaborate?

More paranoia. More FUD. You don't know that UHC will cut services, but you act as if it's a fait accompli.
Too bad that tomorrow he will be back on another thread saying he's against universal healthcare because it's going to cost more and give him shittier healthcare.

I do hope this all works out just as you are selling it.

All I know is that Obamacare has cost me more, and, I can no longer afford an Insulin Pump, because of the added taxes placed on medical devices. (Will be able to get one again, soon, however. Just saving up....)
Sorry you need one much less have to pay for it.

    Peace of mind is un-American.

    Apparently.
