You guys forget that this actually has to be paid for.

You can't just wish it and make it happen.
You must be particularly rich, so I say we go for it.

What puzzles me is how Americans have their minds trapped into ideologies. When you look at important questions like how to organize health care the priority should be first facts. And facts is also to look at the performance of the health system and from there to have a structured approach with the aim of improving it. And on this question the USA are left behind in comparison to most developped nations because their health system costs more for less results, as you can see it when it comes to life expectancy, which is a good barometer to measure the performance. But many people posting on the present threads or others, do consider that basically they do not want to pay for others and their motto is probably : "It is better to be rich and in good health than to be poor and sick". But it does not bring you very far, when, someone being even rich cannot now and then pay some of the very expensive medical treatments he may need. When it comes to things individuals have not the means to master only a collective response is possible. And with medical care, insurances are based on a solidarity between the persons insured, but the ones who are not covered by an insurance still need health care and if they cannot afford it, even if it is alow quality one, it will be at taxpayers expenses. So the focus must be put on how to get the best possible healtcare for everyone at the best price. And here again the US have global poor results, even if in many fields they have top medical care to which only part of the population has access to. OBAMACARE is an answer to that and one good question to ask is wether or not having more people covered by health insurance than before it has or will make save some taxpayers' money which had until now to be spent for uninsured people . You cannot just say that OBAMACARE is expensive if you are not global in your approach. The second question is how is it possible when running an health sytem you can save money with a better organization. And this topic is mentioned often as a possibility, but few practical steps are mentioned. So the real debate should be more to discuss if a universal cover would cost less or more than what is the actual situation when it comes to what is spent for healthcare in the USA and then what would bring a reorganization of it, like it exists in many European countries. There is an answer to this first point already and yes a universal cover costs globally less. The second point is more difficult because it is how to develop a new organization from the actual one and several answers are possible. At least the great many actors in the field of health insurance in the US make things complicated, increase administrative costs etc..... And simplification can save money. As a conclusion I would just say that the US are not on another planet as far as healthcare is concerned and that, what they face actually, found long ago solutions in many countries. So why not try to take measures inspired from what others did before ?

While taxes will have to go up you will no longer have the expense of health insurance. It will take time but in the long run it will save the government money because it will control the spiraling costs of health care. Doctors themselves will save money because they will require smaller staffs because there is only one health insurance company to deal with. Administrative costs will be greatly reduced. Hospital won't have to worry about not being paid for services. It solves so many problems.

And to those of you who have the life philosophy of "I've got mine, fuck you", tough shit. We will drag you kicking and screaming to save money and form a more perfect society.

    That's just idiotic.

Its like saying you will save more money by buying a second car.
Buying in bulk is always cheaper in the long run.

Every time I've changed jobs, I've had to change doctors. Each doctor wants to do his own tests. That can't be very efficient.

I do not get why so many Americans are afraid of universal healthcare, and how so many bought into the lies spread by Fox about Canadian healthcare.

You are so fucking stupid you don't know that you are paying for healthcare for the poor now. They go to the emergency room and your taxes pay a portion of it. Healthcare for all will save money for all in the long run. If you weren't so goddamn ignorant you would be able to see it.

    No more Obamacare bullshit.

After 70 years, let's join the civilized world and provide EVERY human living here with a basic level of health care.
Just curious... Do you support this proposed legislation simply because you know that it doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of passing and that it will be used by your favorite political party to campaign against Democrats in the upcoming midterms?

Really, that's the only rational reason for anyone to celebrate this doomed legislative initiative.

Medicare for all is not practice. You still have to have a supplement.

Excperts were just discussing this.single Payer is the thing, plus picking the best plan from all those countries that have UHC.

And, those of us who pay taxes can look forward to the day, when we can bring, almost 35% of our pay, home......all so that WE can have LESSER health care.

Fortunately, I won't have to worry about paying it for very long. Once Government Bureaucrats take over, they will look at my health file, and promptly decide that I need to be "allowed to die......"

(But, maybe they give me drugs for the pain......probably not, if I am no longer working, though......)

The only thing I would add to Communist Health Care, is a strong system of Assisted (or, maybe, some day, Government Mandated) Suicide.

(For cases such as my file, this could be a good money saving venture for Government.....)
