Gun Control - Suggestions from Right-Wing Members

It's obvious that conservatives aren't hot on gun control. Whether it's keeping them out of the hands of the mentally unstable, or putting limits on clip sizes, or basic gun registration, conservatives are largely united against them.

Therefore, I invite them to propose ideas that will mitigate gun violence in our country. I'm not asking for ideas that will "solve" the problem 100%. I'm not looking for ideas that would have specifically have prevented the recent tragedy in Las Vegas. I'm just looking for general conservative-friendly ideas that will help - even a little.

I'm respectfully asking left-wingers to refrain from dismissive jabs and insults. I've kept this OP free of them, and I'm trying to make this a sincere, open invitation.

As a conservative, what suggestions do you endorse that could mitigate the problem of gun violence in the United States?

Republicans don't believe in a ride for the federal government to regulate Arms Control. It's one of the two tenants in the Second Amendment. Republicans are you now in favor of guns in schools. Shouldn't you have the right to take an I'm on an airplane. Why don't you have the right to carry your arms in a bar. And why shouldn't third graders be able to bring weapons to school too?

The Second Amendment totally says that the federal government has the right to regulate arms. But the NRA people think they have this overbearing right to do it wherever they want. And that ain't the Second Amendment.

I think little old grannies should be able to able to carry a weapon. I believe you should be able to hunt if you live in rural areas with weapons. But it doesn't really work in cities.

Now, remember, I'm answering based on "mitigating gun violence" and not from my own personal anecdotal experiences or emotions.

Closing the loophole(s) on gun sales.

Remove the NRA's voice within the political lobby - or - for every 1 NRA voice, we also must hear 3 mothers, daughters, fathers, brothers, sons or friend's impact of how gun violence has left them. Just to even out the voices.

Outlawing the sale of large capacity magazines for both rifles and handguns.

Require lengthy, deep safety education and possibly costly training for buying a gun of any kind.

Weird thing is I can't actively argue these points too much. I will admit. The reason I can't is because there is no real use case for having a country full of legal and illegal guns and then removing the gun problem. Sure there are example of countries that have active in-place laws about guns and successes and failures, but nothing like disarming or converting a country's methodology about guns.

But at this point, what we are doing isn't working. Trying something new might be a success or failure, but doing what we currently do is absolutely a failure. Proven.

I'm respectfully asking left-wingers to refrain from dismissive jabs and insults. I've kept this OP free of them, and I'm trying to make this a sincere, open invitation.
It's not the left-wingers you need to ask to refrain. It's the right wingers who are hardest on other righties for stepping out of line.

There's no way you can take away guns from Americans. Even the law abiding ones.
I agree with gun safety training, but that is not going to stop criminals.
Criminals do not care about laws.

Its almost impossible to prevent these actions at this point.

Just too many weapons in circulation out there for banning to ever work.

About the only thing we could do is increase the punishment for using guns, that may prevent some of them.

The main problem is that these guys don't care about the law so nothing we do legally is doubtful to have any effect on them.

Then why have any laws at all?

That's the thing. At this point there are so many firearms floating around this country I'm not sure what can be done. We can tighten laws and increase punishments. But it's going to take at least a couple of generations to reduce the number of guns. That's if we can release the stranglehold the NRA has on Congress. And that's a huge IF.
