Furthermore, they are geographically in the middle of a raw materials supply network, so if you tried building a Foxconn-style tech hardware megafactory in the U.S., and you staffed it with employees willing to work low wages, it would still be less profitable than Chinese companies, since China doesn't have to deal with an overseas supply chain.

This is an unalterable reality that nothing short of moving continents around will change.
How do the trade deals fit into your position? (Nafta, etc)?

Are you really this short sighted or just blinded with hate?

Have you cussed him out for the less money you will pay in taxes too, what a horrible person wanting you to b able to spend money you worked for... Must be because of his support for slavery I can picture one of the delusionals calling out.
Sounds like you are of the delusional "grow our way out of debt" ilk.

How is it that high tax, free trading Sweden scores a surplus in their balance of trade?

It all depends on your goals. If the goal is to raise U.S. manufacturing levels back to 1950s/1960s levels, no trade deal will accomplish this.

Wrong direction. The trade deals are what made China the powerhouse...

No, China became a powerhouse because they have more power. Literally. They have a workforce that dwarfs that of the U.S. - and they're willing to work for less money.

In the U.S., we share a border with two countries; Canada and Mexico. China shares its borders with 14 nations; all of which are falling over each other for China's approval.

The U.S. can't compete with that. We will never be able to compete with that. Killing trade deals with China would hurt the U.S. way more than it would hurt China. Perhaps you're thinking we could simply import from other countries. Wrong. Other countries don't want to risk losing favor with China, and they aren't likely to rush in and help fill the gap. Especially given our administration's anti-globalization policies.

When we were the only country capable of manufacturing decent cars and televisions, we had plenty of resources with which to make them. But now we need germanium. Neodymium. Terbium. Rhenium. Lithium. We can't mine these in the volumes needed for manufacturing. You know where those can be found in HUGE amounts? They're in China, and in countries where you travel to China via train. Over 90% of our rare earth demand is met by China. They have the most reserves, the highest production, and there's no country that will risk pissing them off to help us out.

Scuttling trade agreements with China won't change this. Not now, not ever.
    Thanks from RNG
