And another one that currently takes care of the interests of more or less the entire EU AND US in Syria:

Czech diplomats have managed to negotiate the release of a Polish national jailed in Syria since 2015.
    (snip)
Following months of negotiations the Czech Republic was able to announce the manís release on Monday. He was handed over to the Czech ambassador in Syria, Eva Filipi, and then transported to the Polish Embassy in Lebanon.

U.S. efforts to craft some sort of Syria policy have meant dealing with a roster of well-known countries: Syria, of course, Russia, Turkey, Iran, and more. But thereís one more for that list: the Czech Republic.
Since 2012, the skeleton-staffed Czech Embassy in embattled Damascus has been acting as a protecting power for the mighty United States, the same way that Sweden does in North Korea and Switzerland in Iran (both Sweden and Switzerland do the same for other countries). It is a reflection of the small European countryís ability to juggle both continued access to the Assad regime and warm ties with Washington.
ďEva has been a channel for US requests for information about American citizens [including dual citizens] in Syria,Ē Ford said. ďI still think thatís useful, to have that channel.Ē The Czechs set up video conferencing with the U.S. State Department to offer more insight into how things were on the ground, giving U.S. policymakers a clearer idea of what is really going on in government-held areas.
Americans, Need Help in Syria? Call the Czechs. ? Foreign Policy

Tell me why ambassadors are so important.

Why doesn't Spookycolt understand how valuable ambassadors are in maintaining a good relationship with foreign governments? Seems like this would be taught early in a political science degree program.

Well, if Ted Stevens so worthless, why'd you all spend so much time being outraged over his death?

We have interests all over the world. Members of the State Department work to maintain those interests as well as maintaining good relations with allies and negotiating with adversaries over our interests and keeping the peace. The president can't be everywhere nor can he/she know everything needed to be known for all of those relationships. We are not an island unto ourselves.

My recollection - I have a B.S. in political science (NAU 1996) - is that while world politics is in the lower division, class in international relations are more along the lines of upper division classes, and/or graduate level. But it also depends on what one specializes in, and what prerequisites there are.

I believe your BS in Political Science trumps Spooky's PhD in Political Science, because I believe yours is real, not imagined.
    Thanks from Friday13
