There is a reason that the position of ambassador is handed out like candy to friends of the president, its because its a low risk, low committal job that's damn near impossible to fuck up.

Once congress disallowed the position of post-master general for the presidents friends and supporters they started using our embassy's as payback for their top supporters.
Somehow I get the feeling that if Trump had wanted to increase the number of personal working in our foreign embassies instead of decreasing them, you would be fine with it. You simply see which direction Trump is moving and immediately get on board. I don't think the idea of right or wrong even enters into your thinking process.

The day we got instant communication is the day the importance of ambassadors ended.
The president needs to know WHAT he can authorize first, and for that he needs information gathered and verified on the spot.

SOME ambassadors act like that, but others do gather first hand information. And beyond that, they use that information, whether or not they gathered it themselves, to negotiate in person as well. The president, or the State Secretary (isn't that the immediate superior of ambassadors, an equivalent of our Minister of Foreign Affairs?), can't be everywhere, can't have in-depth knowledge of current developments all over the world at all times, and certainly can't always adequately assess that knowledge and draw conclusions from it without being there and, among other things, knowing exactly who to talk to and how to go about it.

Again, some ambassadors do not do more than just deliver the results of other people's work to their higher-ups, but the same argument could be used about many "bosses" in other lines of work. That doesn't mean that no bosses or managers are needed anywhere.

He thinks he'll get some credit for suppressing the number of government "employees". Doesn't matter how vital any of the positions are.

Plus, he's too busy playing golf, watching Fox and tweeting to pay much attention to the ambassadorial shortlists Tillerson's staff have prepared for him.
This is in general- I have to really laugh when I see liberals throwing around words like 'stupid', 'ignorant' and other such terms when referring to President Trump.. most who say this have done absolutely NOTHING with their lives (or very little), can't rub two cents together because they've never worked in a real job. They sit online spewing this crap thinking that they are really somebody- lol. Please.

You know, I used to hear this periodically about Former President Obama and felt the same way. Seriously?

    Depends what jobs he increases.

If he wanted to increase intelligence services working out of our embassy's I would be fine with that.

    Political positions, not so much.

Ambassadors never negotiate anything on their own.

    Never.

Can you imagine the president hearing on the news that one of his ambassadors just negotiated some deal with a foreign nation that he knew nothing about?

    Yeah, that just doesn't happen.

So you think every poster on this board is lazy, incompetent and never worked a day?

Keep in mind you are one of us and I have to wonder how we all have computers, smart phones, cable, etc?

I will now take a poll of posters.

How many here are now on welfare?

How many worked themselves up from the bottom?

How many never worked a day in their life?

    Just 3 simple questions.
    Thanks from Blueneck

If you think Trump is smart and well informed, that says more about you than it does Trump.
