It sounds tough which is what the song is about and it represents America quite well.

We don't want a song about ponies and unicorns to represent us.
    What about mermaids?

I think that is fine. It is a song about an event that prevented the Queen from being on our currency.

What do the lyrics mean and what evidence supports what you know the lyrics means?

Fair enough. We had the same debate a few years ago regarding the line, 'girt by sea'. No one knew what 'girt' was as it was simply a literary anachronism.

So? It doesn't change the fact that it's not a pleasant tune and it's hard to sing.

This is the long version of the Star Spangled Banner....and the lyrics that the NAACP is offended about is not in the song.

The shortened version is what is played at sporting events. Again the lyrics are not present. I think the NAACP should focus more on Rap music that is offensive to every woman in the Country. Rap lyrics are very derogatory to all women as they paint them as bitches and whores.

Laga Gaga sings the Star Spangled Banner at the 2016 Super Bowl. There is no outrage by the players as shown.
