A spokesperson for Speier later clarified to The Hill that the $15 million figure provided by the Office of Compliance (OOC) applied to all types of complaints handled by the office in the fiscal period between 1997 and 2016. These include not just complaints relating to sexual harassment, but also to complaints regarding racial and religious discrimination, as well as discrimination against people with disabilities, according to the spokesperson.

Then again at Capital Hill the process to file a sexual harassment complaint is insane. That needs to be changed as well.
Yeah, if your process boils down to "we need to make it as easy as possible on the accused", you may want to rethink it.

A little-known law has been on the books for more than a decade that gives anyone accusing a federal lawmaker of sexual harassment the right to sue – but only if they consent to a lengthy drawn-out process that includes a written statement within 180 days of the incident, 30 days of counseling and another month or so of mediation.

During that time, the claimant’s employer will be notified. The lawmaker’s identity, however, will remain confidential even if he or she is found guilty.

Should there be a settlement – and there have been many – it’s the American taxpayer that’s on the hook, with “no public disclosure and no consequences for the harasser,” said California Democratic Rep. Jackie Speier.
“The so-called process was clearly drafted to protect the institution rather than the most vulnerable,” Speier told Fox News in a statement. “Survivors have to sign a never-ending nondisclosure agreement just to start the complaint process, which is unheard of in the private sector, then continue to work in their office alongside their harasser.”
The money comes from a special U.S. Treasury fund – and the payouts are kept quiet. That means, those found to be at fault are publicly shielded and don’t have to pay a penny out of pocket for settlement costs.

So when is the Republican majority going to offer legislation to put an end to this? They managed to vote to repeal Obamacare over 50 times, you would think their pristine asses would have been all over this shit, especially when Obama was still in office because he couldn't very well have vetoed it, now could he?

So how do you keep government accountable if it's not responsible for the actions it takes thru its employees? (fed employees would risk being personally sued for actions they took OTJ?
Not fair to them (if you could find anybody to take that job) and not fair to the plaintiff who'll probably recover pennies, if anything)

Macduff burn it all down, you sound like Banon. You want anarchy? You wouldn't last two minutes, you expect people to be perfect and things to be black and white.
I think there are ways to fix the system but if you want to go and live in Somalia were there really are parts where they burned it all down please feel free. You really would not last two minutes in a society were there is complete anarchy.

If they were Republicans .... you know the MSM would have exposed this and ran with it like the Roy Moore story.

But, that hasn't happened has it.

Nope, the MSM is not reporting it like the Menedez case.

That tells you the accused are majority Democrats.

Odd, I heard through the MSM that the Mendez case resulted in a hung jury.

And his trial had nothing to do with sexual harassment/assault.

You have to be fucking delusional John. Eight women and something like 50 people that they know confirm this Moore guy is a pig and either made passes at them while they were minors or sexually assaulted them. This is the same fucker that in a legal decision was the only justice that disagreed with a conviction of a rape on an 8 years old because he thought the issue of CONSENT was unclear. WTF an 8 year old !!!!!

The jurors must not have thought that. The judge had to declare a mistrial..BTW,Lindsey Graham and Corey Booker testified for him. He thanked them yesterday
