He is the longest serving man in Congress so the people in his state have supported him in every re-election. If he remains respected in his state by the voters the Governor may give his endorsement serious thought. It depends on the voters sentiment.

His seat should be very safe since its an 80% democratic area. But if Gov Snyder can, I do think he will appoint a republican.

Representative John Conyers is not resigning. He is retiring on Tuesday. The voters will decide in November who gets his seat. Michigan's 13th District is very heavily Democrat. There hasn't been a Republican in that district since 1949. Whomever wins the Democrat primary can go ahead and start house shopping in D.C. As for now, it is required in Michigan to hold a special election to fill his seat.

I never said that his endorsement would necessarily have an affect upon whom is appointed or elected to the seat. Only that he has the right to endorse.

So who fills his seat for the next 14 months?

That move would effectively end the Governor's career. LOL

The governor has to call for a special election.

No, it wouldn't. The governor will call for a special election because that is how it is done in Michigan but it would not be a career ender if he appointed a Republican stand in, in that district. Nor would it matter. If this was a Senate seat it would be important but there are 435 Representatives and the majority doesn't hinge on one or two seats.
