This is personal to me since I live in the area and know where the shooting took place and I was almost hit by a police car running a red light at high speed yesterday as the cop raced to the scene.

This info comes from today's Oregonian newspaper. Two people died yesterday when Robert Beiser shot and killed his estranged wife and wounded two of her co-workers before turning the gun on himself.

Not much to say. It's an American's right to own and use guns, we can't control them or what they do with them. So I guess we have to accept this kind of behavior with as much grace as we can muster. One would think that the right to universal gun owership would be concommitant with the right to universal health care, wouldn't you?

No, because they think owning a gun is a right and health care is a privilege that must be earned. They might object to people being given guns for free, though.

I'm glad you are OK, and didn't get smashed by the police car!

This happens all over America every day.

Saturday night we had a shooting inside a bar known for trouble. A guy shot three people (all survived). A cop was driving by and heard the shots. He jumped out of his car just as the gunman and his brother came running out. The gunman pointed his gun at the cop and the cop shot him. As soon as word got out that the guy had been shot and taken to the hospital the ER was flooded with this guy's family and thug friends. It was getting out of hand and more cops had to be dispatched to the hospital. They had to lock the hospital down before Dr's could tell the family that the gunman died.

Since then it has been chaos.

Actually, we think the same about both. You want it? You buy it. Nobody is stopping you from using your own money to buy the things you think you need. People live without guns and health insurance and many take care of themselves without either.

Glad you didn't get hurt Mare....

Thanks, Miller. What does it say about our cultural values when guns are within the financial reach of all, but health care is beyond the financial reach of so many? Something seriously wrong with such a system.

It was close, my work van is a mess from the panic stop. I'm hard of hearing and the siren is too high-pitched for me to hear well, the view of the road is obscured by buildings at the intersection so I didn't see the approaching cop car--it was exciting for about a 1/10 of a second. Alls well that ends well, I'm way better off than the folks who got shot. Crazy world.

Funny how you buy one to kill, and the other to live. Or is it funny?

And here in Ohio we are approaching deer gun season. A lovely time when fathers and sons share the joys of falling out of tree stands and shooting each other in the ass....
