Not sure why youíre fumbling with my comment. I didnít accuse them of reporting false things or deny anything the president said. The president has publicly and repeatedly attacked them, so Their entire agenda is a 24/7 political counterattack. This relegates their channels to anti-Trump propaganda. Trump being crazy doesnít make it not-propaganda. In fact, Trump being crazy makes them this way. Heís playing them, effectively, whether intentionally or not. He gets to be his normal crazy ass self, and then sit back and watch as liberal news channels descend into a state of furious, exasperated propaganda. Thatís exactly whatís happened to them since his campaign started.

Yeah, I guess truth doesn't matter to Trumpers anymore. They've been desensitized by the constant stream of bullshit that comes out of his carp-lips.

Conway said it perfectly, "alternative facts", this is what our gov't has devolved into.

And Trumpers now are upset because the media is trying to bring truth back into our discourse. This sick man has done so much damage to America in such a short period that I shudder to think what 3 more years will bring.

Way to get right down in the gutter with Trump. They must all be so proud.
Let me ask this, do shit hole countries exist? Is there such a thing as a shit hole country? Many people have said and think this same exact thing. If so, would Haiti be that? They're the poorest country in the Western hemisphere and don't share our institutions. We don't have much in common. Some things yes, some things no. Calling them a shit hole country may be rude, but may be true. I've known some really nice haitians, but there are rough ones as well.

When it comes down to it, I don't care that he said it. He's just speaking without thinking. How's that so different than anything else. I've really enjoyed watching the talking heads linking this to his rascist antics. In reality, it doesn't carry much weight. Rascism is different than bigotry. Rascism is written into law, prejudice isn't. So I ask, was it just words, or was it a change in policy?

With guidance and parenting, it's possible for kids to hear a "bad word" and know that they shouldn't repeat it. My son and daughter both know what the president said. I'm relatively sure they aren't scarred for life.

Do you see any place for limits?? School teachers referring to the "shithole" comment in their classrooms??
That's an interesting question. I think the school teacher that assigns an unedited version of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn would probably read the unedited president's quote in his or her classroom... at least once.

This incident puts me in mind of Earl Butz, who served as Agriculture Secretary under Gerald Ford. Earl liked to tell dirty jokes, and his off-the-cuff humor got him into trouble. He was also, it would appear in hindsight, a racist. He was asked why the GOP doesn't attract more African American voters. Butz responded with a vulgar and racist reply. In front of Sonny Bono and Pat Boone, of all people...on a commercial plane. I won't repeat it here--not because it's vulgar, but because it's racist. You can read about it in Earl's wikipedia entry though (serves him right): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_Butz#cite_note-12

Here's how the American media dealt with this story, back in 1976:
The Associated Press sent the uncensored quotation over the wire, the Columbia Journalism Review identified only two city newspapers — the Toledo Blade (Toledo, Ohio) and the Madison Capital Times (Madison, Wisconsin) — published the remark unchanged. Others bowdlerized the quote, in some cases replacing the female genital reference with "a tight [obscenity]" and the scatological reference with "a warm place to [vulgarism]" or "warm toilet seats". The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal said the original statement was available in the newspaper office; more than 200 stopped by to read it. The San Diego Evening Tribune offered to mail a copy of the whole quotation to anyone who requested it; more than 3,000 readers did.[15]
I remember learning about this from my father, who told me he went to the local newspaper office to find out what Butz had said. I was 13.

I guess I am old fashioned this way too. I just dont want this stuff normalized or seen as ok. Because the next president down the line could be worse. I am concerned too that many were ok with that politician who yelled "you lie" with Pres Obama. Press seemed to normalize it instead of calling it out. Now we might have a bunch more yelling during the SOTU. It seems well deserved and ok but at what point down the line do we end up with politicians screaming at each other, throwing punches and tossing one another over desks like we see in third world country governments? I would like to think we are civilized and treat these "off" statements for what they are, trashy.
