Senators move to protect Mueller as Trump criticizes probe

Baby steps...again. Does anyone believe that a GOP congress would pass this? It should have been passed last year.

Senators move to protect Mueller as Trump criticizes probe
A bipartisan group of four senators is moving to protect special counsel Robert Mueller's job as President Donald Trump publicly muses about firing him.

Republican Sens. Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Democratic Sens. Chris Coons of Delaware and Cory Booker of New Jersey plan to introduce legislation Wednesday that would give any special counsel a 10-day window in which he or she could seek expedited judicial review of a firing, according to two people familiar with the legislation. They were not authorized to discuss the bill ahead of its release and requested anonymity.

The legislation, which combines two bipartisan bills introduced last summer, comes as Trump has fumed about a Monday FBI raid of the office of his personal attorney, Michael Cohen. Trump has privately pondered firing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and publicly criticized Mueller and his probe into Russian interference. Trump has repeatedly called the investigation a "witch hunt" and on Monday said it was "an attack on our country."

After introducing similar bills in August, both Tillis and Graham had been quiet for months on whether they were still needed, saying they didn't think Trump would move to fire Mueller. But in the hours after Trump's strong words, lawmakers and staff moved to push out a new, combined bill.

Under the legislation, the expedited review would determine whether the special counsel was fired for good cause. The bill would also ensure that any staff, documents and other investigation materials were preserved as the matter was pending.

It's purely symbolic. It won't go anywhere in the Senate. Nor do I believe that this Senate would convict Trump in an impeachment proceeding. the only way Trump will leave office is if he is successfully criminally prosecuted, resigns, dies or loses the presidential election in 2020. He won't be impeached.

What would be the advantage of Trump firing Mueller?

Would it suddenly make everything that happened, that was found, the climbing up the ladder closer to Trump not exist?

Trump has nothing left at this point besides delaying tactics. He'd have other options available to him -- were he innocent.

If the administration decides to fire Mueller, they can.

There's nothing Congress can do about that and they know it.

Oh, there are things that Congress could do, but they won't.

There may be a seperation of powers issue with that.

Firing for cause already binds Trump under 28 CFR 600.1-10, which is an Executive Branch regulation, but being an Executive Branch regulation, Trump can repeal it.

Republicans have formed a group that is urging the Republican President not to fire Mueller. I can't find a list of their members or if any or most are in Congress.

    But here's their website: https://www.ruleoflawrepublicans.com...am=top-stories

And here's their ad which ran on Fox: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0AUus59QhE

An investigation aimed at uncovering Russian Collusion is now looking into an affair with a porn star called Stormy Daniels...

Yeah. If Mueller doesn't have the decency to end this himself - as he's found no evidence of Russian collusion - then he needs to have his ass fired. Enough is enough already. This is starting to look like Ken Star all over again.
