So suggesting black people need to lift themselves up, have pride in themselves and stop blaming others that would be called "biting"?

If childish gambino started a "Stop the violence" movement focusing on the community he's in, not looking for white scapegoats, that would be biting?

Childish gambino is more "rage on behalf of the machine" pop hip hop crap.

Then more dancing, a black choir sings along, he grabs an AR and kills them all, then everyone keeps dancing and singing and having a great time. Not sure how you missed the point but remedial courses are available at your local community college if you were not taught to pay attention.

It's over simplistic in nature and fails to address the issue he's trying to highlight.

Speaking of community college, perhaps a better message for Childish gambino is for people to get an education. great point!

They'd slant-rhyme a bunch of brand names for high-end consumer goods, boast about how awesome they are, all over a tune borrowed from Ray Charles or some other superior musician, and call it a song. It was crass, shallow materialism in a shiny, dance-able package. But there's some hope for the genre when you see it coming out with more musically interesting and thematically challenging material like that. I love how this particular song so mercilessly parodies and dissects the shallow conventions of that prior era of fluff hip-hop ("I'm on Gucci... I'm so pretty... America, I just checked my following list, and—You gon' tell somebody—you mothafuckas owe me..... Get your money, Black man.") And the emptiness of that lyric tradition is emphasized with the discordant music and the jarring contrast in the visuals, of dancing figures and minstrel poses, on the one hand, and cold-blooded violence on the other. That's a video that people will be talking about for decades to come.

I disagree, my buddy fetty wapp and I have this discussion all the time. I think the music has changed from it's subculture origins to money making hooks and wishy washy videos and lyrics.

No one will remember this video or song by the end of next week, but those who were there will remember 9mm for life.
