Lots of people here don't pay their club dues and they do demand plenty, they have fancy cell phones and they enjoy fine food while many have to scrimp.

I just like rubbing it in that you can't counter any argument... Just like you are doing everything you can to avoid continuing this discussion that would prove your original point as asinine.

When it was first introduced, in fact, it applied to LESS than 5% of the wage-earners in the country: the TOP 5%, naturally. So, in FACT, it has been greatly EXPANDED over time.

But I wasn't even TALKING about INCOME taxes. I was talking about Social Security taxes, Medicare taxes, gasoline taxes. ALL of which are federal taxes, and you would have to search pretty long and hard to find a large number of adult Americans who don't pay any of those. Shrug.
There are an obscene multitude of taxes direct and indirect taxes. Embedded taxes, and every stage of production, transportation , transaction. Taxes on wages and gains are what most people notice.
Low income and no income earners especially with kids pay next to nothing and likely get EIC to boot. Everyone else pays all the hidden taxes as well as get gored on local, county, state and federal taxes. Add in tax on property, some pay on vehicles, etc.

After all, they've gotta get revenue from somewhere to make up for the bonanza they just voted for themselves. It's expected and it is just the beginning.

How anyone can't see what this GOP is about or who they care for and who they consider expendable is astonishing to me.

What are your thoughts on this situation? Are lower corporate taxes and a huge bonus to themselves worth throwing the working poor and disabled to the wolves? Because that's what they plan to do and it's already begun. There is no limit to their brazen greed and their abject cruelty.
We are only two steps away from locking up all you liberals.

I'd take action soon if I were you.

Its coming so be afraid, very afraid.

It'd be nice if we could have some kind of Great Simplification of our tax system, because you're right that we have all these niggling hidden taxes that take a big bite when added altogether. But don't think you're the only one that pays property taxes, car taxes, local taxes, county taxes, and etc. Almost everyone does. The thing is, though, is this: If you want to live in a rich society, you had better expect to pay relatively high taxes. Because there is NO rich country in the world that does NOT have relatively high taxes, with the only possible exceptions being oil-rich sheikdoms, which are just LUCKY. If you want to live in a rich country, that MEANS you want good infrastructure, excellent airports, high quality roads and public sanitation, a 21st century electrical power grid, strong schools, world class colleges and universities. You probably want to support scientific and technological research and development-----don't you? And maybe have a nice space program. You're going want to regulate things like nuclear power plants. ALL of those things take taxes.

Poor countries almost universally have LOW taxes. If that's your cup of tea, well, there's PLENTY of poor countries out there for you to choose from. Take your pick.

Like you stated a century ago Income taxes were only levied on a small percent. Pre 16th amendment Direct taxes were apportionment and census. Now we have high taxes and still have a mega debt. Every dollar of debt swimming around out there has to be paid back with interest. Something sure isn't working.

I give up. Do you wear a helmet? Because nothing is getting through.
