Kind of figured this when I heard the oral arguments. They decided the baker was an "artist" and his freedom of expression is why they decided. Looks like a 6-2 decision.

Supreme Court rules for Colorado baker in same-sex wedding cake case

The Supreme Court ruled narrowly in favor of a Colorado baker who refused to bake a cake to celebrate the marriage of a same sex couple because of a religious objections. The ruling was 6-2.

    6-2 is narrow?

The whole issue is not resolved. 7-2 ruling. Very narrow ruling.

Justice Kennedy said the Colorado Human Rights commissioner was too harsh[hostile] to the baker's religious beliefs...and for that reason [and that reason only] this case [and this case only] favors the baker.

Sets no precedent in all other discrimination cases on religious basis.

It's a 7-2 decision. However, it's fairly limited to what the Colorado commission did here - finding that they did not apply the law neutrally. Leaves door open for further debate on where the line/intersection between the issues lie.

This will leave the SC open to many more similar cases wont it?

It was 7-2. So not narrow numbers wise. However, it's a narrow decision in terms of its scope: https://twitter.com/gabrielmalor/sta...43104648486912 (Read Gabe's Twitter TL for a VERY helpful analysis. He's one of the smartest people I know.)

Doesn't define what qualifies as a religious belief either.
