How well can he possibly understand American culture, if he insulates himself from all of the ways it's expressed?

Do you think there is any value in understanding the culture of the country which you're representing?
How does Obama having a rapper at the White House improve my life?

Again, you're cherry-picking. Obama had dozens of musical artists perform at the White House. He also had poetry readings. Obama's smartphone playlist was the subject of light-hearted discussion on several occasions. Likewise, his summer reading list. And it's not limited to Obama ... Until now, ALL presidents have recognized the value of America's entertainers and artists.

Given that much of America voted for Trump because "he's relatable" and "he gets me," I'm curious to know how many out there just don't like music and don't read books.

Worth a read; here's the link.
Tone deaf. Most narcissists are because it does not involve them.

... And George W. Bush was a respectably good painter. Bill Clinton played the saxophone. George Bush Sr. was an accomplished college baseball player. Ronald Reagan, of course, was an accomplished actor. Jimmy Carter was always a heavy reader.

They all had skills and interests that transcended their jobs. They embraced aspects of American culture.

    Trump has affairs. That's something.

I can't imagine giving a shit about the president's music playlists.
So what happens now? Does the music industry grind to a halt?

The entertainment industry en masse made it clear how they felt about this administration when they refused to perform at the Inauguration. Do they seriously expect that Trump is going to beg them to perform at the White House after that?

Plus, he seems to like fast food.

    That should count.

But, it's how he governs that REALLY important.

Poetry, and music, and "artsy stuff"...not so much.

In the thread I linked to back in post #7, where we were discussing this exact issue, I made this reply to you:

Boy, you really, REALLY don't understand this, do you? You just don't 'get' that all this contempt for Trump is well-deserved. He has earned every bit of it. With his remarks after Charlottesville, offering praise for the Neo-Nazis----there were some 'very fine people' marching with them, he said. With his many, many vile remarks about women, which couldn't even all be covered in one post.

You apparently read the OP, and it never even OCCURRED to you to ask WHY the artistic and intellectual community of America has so much contempt for Donald Trump. The thought quite literally never even entered your mind.

Is your mind then just puny that it cannot hold such thoughts, or cannot even turn them over to examine them? You can't even WONDER why America's artists and musicians and writers and intellectuals and academics seem to almost universally LOATHE Donald Trump?

    Apparently so.
    Thanks from Friday13
