Similar to the 60s and yet again conservatives on the wrong side

Watching The Vietnam War by Ken Burns, there is a lot of coverage about what was going on at home with civil rights/anti-war protests. Very similar to issues of the 60's

It's crazy how similar it is, even down to the stuff the pro-war people said about the opposition, the same stupid stuff as they said during Iraq War demonstration. It's also crazy to see the similarities in Nixon and Trump. and even back then the sitting president LBJ had a recording talking about what Nixon was doing as treason, but he decided to sit on it like Obama did with Trump.

Just like the 60s, many of the conservatives are on the wrong side of history being against civil rights, like they were in the 60's.

I find it funny that these days we look back with pride (well, maybe the bigoted conservatives don't) at the progress made with civil rights during that time, and yet here they are today, and it is conservatives yet again fighting against peace and civil right

I agree. I too am watching it, at 1967 right now, LBJ is still around. Makes my blood boil thinking about the waste of life on both sides for what exactly? The interviews with the NVA soldiers and officers are incredible. It just shows you that most wars are not about anything but power and the egos of the leaders.

And yet our shitty country continues to kill people all across the world pissing away trillions of dollars to make

All over the dumb argument that we can't have communism spread. What kind of stupid nonsense is that? We were the bad guys in Vietnam, that's for damn sure. Just like we are the bad guys in the middle east. All to let companies profit. It's so disgraceful how many dumb americans ignore this reality and pretend it doesn't happen. This country needs a war on its turf in modern times to get a taste of what it is like to live the horrors of war on your home, maybe we wouldn't be such war mongerers. Europeans try to avoid war because they lived through the horrors.

I haven't gotten to it yet but remember stumbling on it while it was on TV, but the way soldiers were treated was ridiculous. It's not their fault they were forced into a war. It's a shame so many tried to blame them personally for doing their duties.

I've also been watching a lot of older comics, shows from 20 years or more, like Bill Hicks, George Carlin, and their jokes are still 100% spot on fitting for today. nothing has changed, people are dumb and never learn from history. I hate humans

Watched it the first time it aired, as I stated in the other thread.

Also saw some of it when it was rerun.

    It is great.

They tell the story from ALL sides and tell the truth about how all 3 presidents played politics with the war and our soldiers lives.

    You're welcome.

My Dad and Uncle lived through it and spent their time in Southeast Asia. My uncle didn't come back all in one piece. I was real fortunate my Dad did, but he never talked about it much. He did have lifelong friends from the event, but he would have likely traded those friends to not go.
