Federal Court Rules Anti-Clinton Ads Must Comply With Campaign Finance Law

WASHINGTON A conservative group must abide by campaign finance laws if it wants to run ads promoting its anti-Hillary Rodham Clinton movie, a federal court ruled Tuesday.

Hey; the same law was applied to Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 911."

According to your source, it was this same group - Citizens United - that took Moore to court on the issue. As a result, Moore did not run television ads for "Fahrenheit 911" during the election season.

It sounds like Citizens United wants to do exactly what they didn't want Michael Moore to do. Effing hypocrites.

Well you called that right Djinn, I was outraged about the Michael eatsMoore decision as well. Look like a way to regulate the first to me here and in 04.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances
I don't know where this quote comes from. It's something of an oddity, and I don't suppose the judges ruling on either the Hillary Clinton Movie or Moore's travesty have ever read this.

But it is an novel idea, and it would be nice if the United States could try to incorporate it into their laws. It's straightforward, simple, and doesn't say a single word about television ads or coincicidental timing with political campaigns.

    Okay. Sarcasm OFF.

That fucking McCain. Only a total fascist ass could craft a law that prohibits political ads during a political campaing.

That fucking Bush. What kind of a puppet lets a bill like that pass his desk without a veto?

And that fucking United States Supreme Court. That bill is clearly violating the letter and the spirit of the First Amendment, yet they let it stand, probably because they were too eager to move on to a vote destroying eminent domain protections.

And the shredders Team Hillary will be using to destroy the important documents will quickly find the Second Amendment right below the First.

    Edit:
And, oh, yeah. There's not ONE word in the Constitution authorizing the Federal Government to regulate campaign financing. Not one. The whole concept is foreign to what America stands for, a man's freedom to live his life as he sees fit, which includes his decisions on how to spend his money.

Nor does it say anything about yelling "fire" in a crowded theater, or egging on rioters by saying "Kill! Kill! Kill!," or egging a potential suicider by saying "Jump! Jump!"

The problem with the Constitution is that is is not a practical absolute.
