50 square miles of China in Boise, Idaho

China is proposing to buy 50 square miles of land south of the Boise, Idaho airport and to build a self-sustaining Chinese city with manufacturing, shopping, and homes for Chinese workers.

China Wants To Construct A 50 Square Mile Self-Sustaining City South Of Boise, Idaho

This strikes me as a very bad idea, giving the Communist Chinese a foothold in the American heartland.

What are you afraid of? They would still have to follow the law of the land.

My concern is that it will NOT be liable to the law of the land, but will instead be like an embassy which is considered a part of the country that it represents and as such is not governed by US law. Do you remember when we would not allow Cuba to host Russian missles? How many missles could the Chinese secretly put in a 50 square mile area over which they have sole control?

I would not allow that, but buying up some land, putting factories and housing on it doesn't sound all that bad as long as they pay taxes and follow our laws.. The Saudies and Japanese have been buying up America for a long time.

On initial glance, I don't like it. I see no upside to allowing foreign governments to set up mini colonies within our borders. Maybe we could grant them a renewable 10 year lease and see if they behave.

So, you're against the federal Indian reservation system?

Yes. I can see why an exception was made for them, though, as this was their ancestral home.

I don't know. If they followed American law and custom, then I don't really see the problem.

Why not just let individual Chinese apply for citizenship and immigrate here? We have a system set up for those who wish to join us.

Reading the article, it seems to suggest that the Chinese don't wish to come here to be assimilated, but rather to bring their culture and behavior here, to set up enclaves of true Communist Chinese bureaucracy on American soil.

I don't see any upside to this, what will we gain by allowing them intimate access to our country?
