Democrat Convention draws more viewers than Republican

If the republicans want to talk about empty seats, then the story is about TV viewership:

...In raw numbers, the Democrats outdrew the Republicans by almost 4 million viewers, or roughly 18 percent. Most of that advantage came from younger viewers. The Democrats doubled GOP viewership among those aged 18-34, and outdrew Republicans by 1.5 million viewers among those 35-55.

UPDATE at 6:04: Nielsen just posted the Democrats’ second-night numbers. They drew 25.1 million viewers, 3 million more than the Republicans even though the Dems had tougher competition in the NFL’s opening night. Again, most of that advantage came among younger viewers...

Republicans made a huge mistake hosting their convention during the same week most schools returned from summer vacation. Getting back into the routine of homework, packing lunches, etc. is tiring. For many of us, there isn't much time for television viewing that week.

Could have created some confusion among folks who were told 'America's Team is having its season opener.' Naturally they switched to the DNC Convention.

Well looking at the two charts, it all looks pretty even except for a couple things the 18-34 crowd, and that note about hurricane issac coverage. and truth be told, it's the 55+ that watches these boring things.

It probably mirrors what we're likely to see on election day: Romney will get a lot of votes, but Obama will get more of them.
