So the real costs to people for this health care plan have finally been revealed:

    http://www.tnr.com/blog/the-treatmen...t-craft-reform

"...Under the Baucus plan, subsidies would be offered to people who earn up to 400 percent of the poverty level ($43,000 for an individual or $88,000 for a family of four) in the form of tax credits that would be paid directly to the insurance company of the person's choice. The credit would be calibrated on a sliding scale to ensure that people at the bottom of the income range paid no more than 3 percent of their earnings for premiums while those at the top would be liable for as much as 13 percent.

That would amount to more than $700 a month for a family of four making $66,000 a year -- significantly more than most people at the same income level now pay, according to research conducted by Linda Blumberg, a senior fellow in the Health Policy Center at the Urban Institute. Families earning less than 300 percent of the poverty level also would be eligible for assistance with deductibles and other out-of-pocket expenses, but families who earn more would be on their own..."

So if you make $88,000 or less you then get susidies from the government. Even with these subsidies a family of 4 with a combined income of $88,000 you pay $700. If you make even less you get a bigger bunch of subsidies to make it cheaper. If you have a family of 4 and a combined income of 89,000 or more you get no subsidies.

and if you think $700 is cheap know this. There are out of pocket expenses and co pays!!

    http://www.tnr.com/blog/the-treatmen...l-really-means

"...Total medical expenses, including premiums and out-of-pocket expenses, would be no more than 20 percent of annual income for most of the people profiled in the document. For the poor, it'd be dramatically less. That's the (relatively) good news.

And the bad news? These figures are all for people in average health. But people end up paying a lot more in out-of-pocket expenses when they have a serious medical issue--whether it's because of an accident, an acute illness, or a chronic disease. According to my back-of-the-envelope calculations, a family of four making $42,000 a year could owe $9,000 a year in medical expenses if it hit the maximum in out-of-pocket expenses--which is pegged, in the Finance legislation, to deductible levels in Health Savings Accounts. That's easy to do when one family member gets in an accident, has an acute medical problem, or is dealing with a chronic disease.

A family of four making $78,000 a year could owe $23,000--nearly a third of its income--if it had a member with high medical bills...."

So a family of 4 with a modest income pays over 12% of their income to this healthcare plan anually. for a family with higher means it is as much as 19% of income!! Holly crap. I have modest means and I would be paying this rate. About $12,000!!

Are you kidding me?? That is triple my insurance costs now!!

Well no, not exactly. You are required to have it and if you do not you get penalized.

"...Families that do not purchase insurance would face penalties on their annual tax returns of up to $1,500 a year if they make less than 300 percent of the poverty level, or $3,800 a year if they make more...."

Is the point of this healthcare bill to make insurance cheaper? Or simply to get government control over it?

Because this plans makes it more expensive for people not less.
