    2013 School Shootings in US

2013 is starting out worse than 2012 for school shootings.

A Rapid Increase in School Shootings in 2013 - theTrumpet.com

As terrible as 2012 was, 2013 has been even more deadly. In the month of January alone, a mind-staggering eight, yes, eight school shootings took place.

    • January 10, Taft, California: A gunman entered a science classroom of Taft Union High School with a 12-gauge shotgun and opened fire. A 16-year-old male student was shot in the chest and critically wounded while a teacher was also slightly injured. …

    • January 15, Hazard, Kentucky, Hazard Community and Technical College: Two people were shot and killed, and a third person, a 12-year-old girl, was wounded and succumbed to her wounds the next day.

    • January 29, Midland City, Alabama: A gunman boarded a school bus and shot and killed the bus driver …. [then] abducted a 5-year-old child …. The child was still being held hostage three days later.

Anybody want to suggest that schools would be safer if there were double the number of gun carriers in them?

Doesn't seem to be a political issue that you've raised here. Maybe for the Civil Rights & Legal Issues subforum?

Guns in schools isn't political? What was Sandy Hook? Arts and Entertainment for the NRA?

The time and energy you spend overplaying this issue is kind of astounding.

In 2010 there were over 11,000 murders using a gun, which is more than 30 per day. If we imagine that the rate is similar this year as it was in 2010, then there should already be over a thousand gun murders this year. So the fact that some of those occurred at schools, in schools, on school premises, etc., is frankly not the most surprising thing to note, just given the numbers.

Maybe you should post links to all of the several hundred gun murders that have likely already occurred in the U.S. this year. And since you also posted gun crimes that did not result in death (such as aggravated assaults or whatever else they'll be charged as), maybe you should post links to those several hundred as well. Would that be a good use of your time to do (much less a good use of our time to read about)?

You're wasting your own time and ours by subjecting the forum to incessant gun violence stories. Give it a rest.

    Wow! That is extremist.

Murders, maybe. The Internet yesterday quoted over 179,000 shootings, many of which had to have had crippling and life changing consequences. And of course discussing it is not only “astounding” but embarrassing, and might result in more effective gun control? Did it ever occur to you that America is unique in the world in tolerating its school shootings, that’s how serious this is?

Just out of curiosity do you have just guns, guns and children or just children? Or none of the above?

Odd that you should be so solicitous of my time? Or is this just more “only my guns matter, damn your children,” politicking?

No one, no community, no state, no court of law anywhere in this nation "tolerates school shootings." Another example of how the foundation of all your prattle on this topic is a blatant fallacy.

Just out of curiosity do you have just guns, guns and children or just children? Or none of the above?
Just out of curiosity why the fuck would that be any of that your business or relevant to your thread?

These will only get worse if we continue to expand the meaning of 'school shooting'. Hell, the one in motown was after a pickup game started after a high school game across from a high school. Not even on school property. Its a bit of a stretch to call that a school shooting.

But hell, as long as it serves your agenda.

The death of 20 children was turned into a recuiting bonanza...and a jump in weapon and ammunition sales .......so why bother coming up with commonsense soltions to gun related
    deaths.

Political opportunity, recruiting bonanza? Pick your side. Seems like everyone was comfortable using those kids for their agenda.

tubig, use this also. These kids are emulating their dumbshit parents: Pistol-packing pupils becoming an everyday occurrence - U.S. News

The case of a Virginia second-grader caught with a gun on his school bus this week may be shocking but it's by no means uncommon.

Across the country, children are being suspended or arrested for having weapons on campus or buses on a daily basis.
Police in Henrico, Va., were waiting at school for the little boy Monday morning after he allegedly threatened another pupil on their ride to Ratcliffe Elementary School. They found a handgun in his backpack, NBC station WWBT of Richmond, Va. reported.
