    Protect the Fetus

Shackled and pregnant: Wis. case challenges 'fetal protection' law - U.S. News

    Inexcusable.

What's this shit about the left wanting a nanny state?

It sure as hell is excusable, in fact it is straight up justified, if you bother to comprehend the devastation of prenatal substance exposure and the static encephalopathy that results.

Answer me this: why would the opioid-addicted pregnant lady refuse physician-monitored Suboxone treatment?

The story could not possibly have put a fluffier and more naive spin on what drug addiction looks like:

When asked to detail her medical history, Beltran admitted a past struggle with the painkiller Percocet. But that was all behind her, Beltran said: She had been taking Suboxone, a drug used to treat Percocet dependency. Lacking health insurance and unable to afford the medication, Beltran had used an acquaintance’s prescription and self-administered the drug in decreasing doses. She had taken her last dose a few days before her prenatal visit.
    Puh.

    Fucking.

    Leaze.

But the right-wingers who instituted this law will jump to the defense of any of the numerous idiots who leave their guns out and their child shoots themselves and dies.

Let's see, violation of doctor-patient confidentiality, unreasonable seizure (no drugs were found in her system), is not appointed a lawyer by the courts (violation of the constitution, again), etc etc.

But, let me guess, this time it's cool because...?

What's next? Monitored pregnancy? Gonna arrest a woman for eating a Big Mac because it's bad for the baby? Considering no drugs were found in her system, apparently it's okay for the law system to go to presumed guilty until proven innocent? You're using law enforcement to force medical care, and any way you shape that doesn't make it any less... well, shit, I can't believe I'm actually using this word, but fascist. Absolutely, 100% fascist.

Just like every other right winger policy, it's not that they don't want a nanny-state, it's just that they want a nanny-state that's good for a certain group of people (read: not women, minorities, or the poor). Make sure you make women put serial numbers on their vaginas, since Republican males think those are theirs to control anyway.

I suggest that you re-read the article...she had been treated and was no longer taking the "opioid", and had weaned herself from the substitute that she was treated with. The PTB wanted to PUT HER BACK ON the substitute and she refused. Her last blood test was CLEAN. The idiots wanted her to take a drug that she didn't want to take after she was CLEAN. That's idiotic.

I do love the mental gymnastics here.

Requiring people to purchase health care, under threat of... paying a little bit at tax time: AN ABOMINATION OF SIN UNWORTHY OF FORGIVENESS, PERPETRATED BY THE LOWEST SWINE IMAGINABLE

Forcing a lady to undergo medical procedures she does not want to take, after being proven clean by blood tests, and then being submitted to a hearing where she is not appointed a lawyer for her own defense: ABSOLUTELY MORALLY CORRECT.

    Unfuckingbelievable.

Disgusting. Nothing like forced treatment and medication. But hey, we do it with the "mentally ill" all the time, so it is only natural to see it creeping into other facets of society.

She wanted to be off drugs completely. They won't let her do that, and that is wrong. Plus, do we even know what complications could arise from this alternate drug they want her on?

You're comparing someone with truncated mental capacities that could possibly do harm to themselves or others to a woman that, for all intents and purposes, would be considered Drug Free under any other circumstance having criminal charges filed against her for refusing treatment?

Seems like kind of a stretch.
    Thanks from Friday13
