The libertarian platform is pretty simple but entirely theoretical. It's simply not possible to have a functioning government under that ideology which is why there has never been one. It is required to morph into something else which goes back to my first point that it's the system, not the party that defines politics in the US.

The libertarian platform is literally half republican and half democrat and simply will have to go one way or the other to succeed.

Yeah, I've only posted it here like 20 times...Madeline isn't here that often so I assumed she missed my 20 other posts explaining it. You don't have an excuse though.

Has a libertarian society ever existed?

When I state libertarianism I am going by the ideology defined by Robert Nozick in Anarchy, State and Utopia which was heavily influenced by the great thinkers such as Immanuel Kant and John Locke. It defined modern day libertarianism and set the standards for it but eventually even Nozick had to walk away from his theory as it simply proved unrealistic in the practical world.

As a moral philosopher, Nozick was free to stretch liberty further than even an Austrian economist. That is, he was able to separate out a normative claim (that liberty is the fundamental value of values, and should be maximized) from an empirical claim (that the most efficient method for allocating goods and services is a market economy). Free to pursue liberty as a matter of pure principle, Nozick let nothing stand in his way. Should we tax the rich to feed the poor? Absolutely not, as "taxation of earnings is on par with forced labor." (Or more precisely: "Taking the earnings of n hours of labor is like taking n hours from the person.") Well, isn't at least some redistribution necessary on the basis of need? "Need a gardener allocate his services to those lawns which need him most?"
Robert Nozick, father of libertarianism: Even he gave up on the movement he inspired.

Why is my subscribing to the Libertarian Party philosophy such a bizarre fascination for you?
