I would vote for that! If not I would fight, think war, for it if need be. And the Op was in the mornings paper so I read all about it over my coffee.

No, what is making us wait is the idea that trump will work a bloodless coup and that would be the time to say adios MF.

They've done an extremely poor job, then. How many years out of the last thirty have we managed to be at peace?
To be ready to fight, to be strong enough that other countries will not want to fight us.
And they don't. When was the last time a country picked a fight with us? And yet we are constantly at war.

That old trope you're pushing is outdated. Our military budget supports putting our forces in over 100 countries on a pretty much permanent basis. It's not like we're speaking softly and carrying a big stick--we're using our prowess to push people around and further our interests all over the world, all the time. We are invasive, not defensive.

The US military does not decide to go fight in other countries.

Our elected politicians make that decision.

They should be, and they ARE. What do we need increased budgets for EXCEPT invasive operations dreamed up by politicians?

And that is the way we like it, or so it seems, since every Administration I can remember has pursued that course...and I remember a lot of Administrations, all the way back to Truman..

I take that back, I do not remember Jimmy Carter and Jerry Ford pursuing that course, except when pretty much forced by the Iran Hostage Crisis...and Ford the Mayaguez incident.

It is. Once you become the world's hegemon, it becomes a little like what Jefferson said about slavery:
But, as it is, we have the wolf by the ear, and we can neither hold him, nor safely let him go. Justice is in one scale, and self-preservation in the other.

The left-most of the left will indict Carter for supporting violence by regimes around the world, but he "never dropped a bomb nor fired a bullet," as he would claim.

President Donald Trump plans to slash the Environmental Protection Agency workforce by almost 3,000 employees and its budget by $2 billion in 2018, according to a preliminary plan obtained by the National Association of Clean Air Agencies yesterday. The outline, revealed Wednesday, may spell bad news for the Bay Area, calling for the total elimination of the EPA’s San Francisco Bay Program. The program’s current budget of $4.8 million would drop to zero.

This funding goes to restoring wetland habitat, enforcing EPA regulations on water pollution and sewage treatment plans, and improving shoreline protection in SF Bay, to name a few.

“We need more money from the federal government, not less,” said David Lewis, executive director of Save The Bay, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting, restoring and celebrating San Francisco Bay.

The Bay area’s budget is already far below that of other estuary regions like the Chesapeake Bay or Puget Sound, which sit at $73 million and $28 million respectively. “The Bay starts off at a big disadvantage in federal funding even though we have the highest demonstrated need,” Lewis confirmed.

Trump's EPA budget proposal: Zero dollars for Bay Area program
The EPA has been weak for years for lack of funding. Environmentalists are far more important than the bureaucrats.

Lawsuits filed in the courts are just as good if not better than EPA edicts. Environmental laws are on the books and companies and even the Federal government can be made to comply.

Most if all states have their own versions of State EPAs and if a state is serious about the environment can do as much as the federal government to stop polluting on State land.

Trump can slow but not stop the agency. The EPA will recover after Trump's short stint.
