    Since the national debt basically doubled in the past 8 years, I would say the answer is no.

    We had a balanced budget in 2000, since then we have had round after round of tax cuts, how has the deficit done over the last 17 years? The answer will tell you how well "trickle down" economics works in the real world. How can there even be a discussion on its merits?
