    Generally.

Removing them for not adequately performing their job is difficult in any profession for the most part. And remember, no matter what a person in congress does, they are pleasing some in their constituent.
and if a majority feel he should be dismissed - there is no mechanism to accomplish that except waiting until the next election. a few states have such policies in place to call for a recall election during tenure - but not at the federal level.

There are mechanisms in place to remove a sitting member of congress.

However, simply doing it on the basis that a majority of people no longer like him is not grounds for dismissal.

When I bartended once the majority of staff hated our boss also.

    Oh well.

we are not talking about serving drinks - I find that analogy somewhat less than valid.

How do you go about proving incompetence for a state representative actually?

    Good luck with that.

If you have a set criteria of what they should do why even bother electing anyone in the first place.

Just send all your votes directly to congress on a piece of paper.

for most of the states that have such a policy, proof is not required. it's a matter of signatures on a petition.

And you don't see any dangers with that at all?

Terms for representatives are quite short the way it is so the system in place is fine.

People do not understand how the inner workings of congress operate so they should not be allowed to yank someone out only to end up in a worse spot with a replacement starting from scratch.

understand your position, but remind you that not all people would agree with that.
