It's the whole Sunni Shia battle.

    Iran is Shia.

    KSA is Sunni.

KSA was appalled at Obama giving Iran a green light to nukes.

They are pleased Trump was elected.
    Thanks from Madeline

It's just too fucking complicated for me. I never seem to be able to figure all the moving pieces out.

Let me clarify: If Middle Eastern nations fail to control terrorist operations within their borders, there is no penalty; no way to hold those nations accountable.

Some seem to disagree with you:

While Saudi Arabia is often a secondary source of funds and support for terror movements who can find more motivated and ideologically invested benefactors (e.g. Qatar), Saudi Arabia arguably remains the most prolific sponsor of international Islamist terrorism, allegedly supporting groups as disparate as the Afghanistan Taliban, Al Qaeda, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and the Al-Nusra Front.[96]

Saudi Arabia is said to be the world's largest source of funds and promoter of Salafist jihadism,[97] which forms the ideological basis of terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda, Taliban, ISIS and others. Donors in Saudi Arabia constitute the most significant source of funding to Sunni terrorist groups worldwide, according to Hillary Clinton.[98] According to a secret December 2009 paper signed by the US secretary of state, "Saudi Arabia remains a critical financial support base for al-Qaida, the Taliban, LeT and other terrorist groups."[99]

But as to the overall situation: Was Trump "well received" or was he "politely received"? The most powerful military in the world, the biggest oil buyer in the world and the greatest, or one of the greatest industrial strength in the world would get politeness even if some bumbling fool were the leader of that nation.

That was the part which I was about to comment on. The customs/human rights/social behaviors of Saudi Arabia aren't going to change because The West demands it. It is doesn't make sense to poison the discussion by injecting it into the dialog. With regard to fighting terrorism we need their help more than they need ours.

Give a nod to Trump on that point.
Thanks from bajisima, Amelia and Madeline

Agreed, but what I meant was, attacks in Germany, Belgium, France, Israel, etc.

If these were to be reduced, this new Arab Center For The Fight Against Extremism (whatever it's correct title is), could be judged a success.

And what would incentivize Middle-Eastern nations to take action? Or accept responsibility?
Thanks from RNG, Madeline and labrea
