I keep thinking, if peace was finally possible in Northern Ireland, it can't be completely hopeless in the ME.
But the situation in Ireland wasn't a shifting battle between multiple tribes. It's way easier to broker a deal between two parties.

Even the Palestinians aren't one block. Then you have the Kurds, Turkey is involved the whole Shia and Sunni, with US corporate interests and Soviet political/corporate interests all conflicting.

I know it sounds cruel but I keep thinking and more and more saying, get out. Let them settle it.

Is that even an option? We could easily achieve energy independence by developing green energies ASAP, I think, but the oil there will continue to have massive strategic value for most of the 21st century anyway, globally speaking. The Arab nations wouldn't need to earn one more dime to remain enormous wealthy, and just as motivated (if not moreso) to fund terror attacks on the US and the West.

And I think if the US ever did cut off Israel as an ally, they would turn to China, who would welcome them with open arms. That might well send the entire EASTERN hemisphere in war and chaos.

(I personally still think it was the stupidest thing Obama could have done, allowing Iran to get nuclear capability but hey. Horse, barn door.)

    Link?

Other than the ceremonial meetings with the Saudis last weekend, why do you think that's true? Is there media coverage out of Arab nations, praising this idea or something?

I hope you are right. That would be VERY encouraging.
