Yes exactly. And the platform can change from year to year, from decade to decade. It's why I made the statement that "Democrat" and "Republican" are little more than valuable brand names.
My late father often referred to himself as a "Eisenhower Republican", but today he would be appalled by the Republican party.
Platforms change but ideologies do not.
I gave my reasons why I once leaned Conservative. Now, I will never be one. Even though I have many conservative ideas.
They have been lost. Without a guide you have no idea what you are
Conservatism has a set of bullet points that define what the ideology is.
If a certain thing hits most of those bullet points then it is save to call it conservatism.
That goes the same for any ideology.
As you have stated, America believes in principles that define it as a conservative viewpoint.
Conservatism is non-changing so is liberalism, libertarianism, anarchism, communism, and all the other ism's out there.
You don't apply an ideology to a circumstance, you look at the circumstance and see which ideology it most closely aligns to.
You're correct - I haven't posted mine yet. It's coming out in an article in two days and I will be free to then. I wanted to get the discussion going here and was interested in seeing what other conservatives/right-leaning posters had to say, though so far, hardly any of them have weighed in.
I have referenced parties several times because several of the people who HAVE posted keep referring to them and I'm trying to explain that my inquiry has to do with ideology, not party.
