Local Billionaire Drops $10 Million On 'Impeach Trump' TV Ads

BY JOE KUKURA IN NEWS ON OCT 23, 2017 3:00 PM

You are unlikely to enjoy any television advertisement you see today as much as you will the one-minute spot seen above, an advertisement coming to a TV commercial break near you and unapologetically calling for the immediate impeachment of President Donald Trump. According to the Associated Press, the ads are financed by cigarette tax advocate, climate activist, and Democratic megadonor Tom Steyer, the host of the 2013 fundraiser at which Barack Obama declared Kamala Harris to be attractive. Details of the ad’s channels and run dates were not announced in the report, but the AP describes it as a “national television advertising campaign” in which Steyer will invest “at least $10 million.”

“A Republican Congress once impeached a President for far less,” a stern Steyer says, looking earnestly into the camera in the ad. “Yet today, people in Congress and his own administration know that this president is a clear and present danger who is mentally unstable and armed with nuclear weapons. And they do nothing.”

There has to be a crime before you can impeach

No, Crime has been found... except those committed by the Clinton Campaign.

As I have said before its playing too loose and fast with this word. It will backfire in rural America. Run for something not against it. As for impeachment, let Mueller do his job first.

I want to agree with you, however trump pretty much has turned that wisdom on its head.

seen these ads. Don't really understand them? It's not like people aren't already aware of Trump's unfitness for the job. Political ads aren't going to result in his impeachment. The only way he's going to get impeached is if Republican's are afraid they'll get thrown out of office if they don't. The alternative would be if the Dems get enough seats in Congress. But , even then, they'll be worried about the potential political fall out. As well as having Pence as president. I think the more likely scenario is Mueller recommending indictments/impeachment. Or, it being clear he's about to. Then, Republican's might get a spine and force Trump out under the threat of impeachment. Hopefully, they'll include Pence in the deal. A Ryan presidency would not be idea. But, it would be a far cry more palatable than either Trump or Pence.

Maybe but by doing anything to go against him, his supporters or even those who only care about single issues or the makeup of the courts, will be energized by this. It will work in the coasts but it may not play elsewhere. He still has over an 80% approval rating with republicans.

Have to agree. Everything we see today in Trump we knew before last November, nothing is new. Plus I do think a lot of republicans might be secretly hoping for an impeachment to put Pence in. They might be willing to throw Trump out, but they will fight like hell for Pence or Ryan.

Agreed. As you have correctly stated in other threads, GOP reps looking to get re-elected have to worry about Trump loyalists. Talks of impeachment will more than likely embolden those looking to primary the republican establishment.

    IMO
