    Trump Is Not The Devil

Whilst hanging out with loved ones yesterday, all lifelong liberals and Democratic party faithful types who all voted for Hillary Clinton despite my CEASELESS haranging before the election, I detected a level of fear and despair among them that seemed to me to be out of place, or at least, out of proportion. The imminent passage of the GOP tax bill seems to have tipped them into an emotional abyss, and much grieving was going on.

Which I personally do not think is warranted.

For starters, I think a president should be judged by what he does, not by what he says. (I actually think this about every adult.)

And Trump has done, or started to do, or at least talked about doing, some things that I really wanted done.

    * Address the heroin crisis and bring federal resources to bear, especially against the manufacturer of OxyCotin, Purdue Pharma.

    * Make the world aware the U.S. is 100% dedicated to its ally, Israel. Peace in the ME will not be gained by "pushing the Jews into the sea".

    * Positively impact the U.S. economy, especially on the jobs and housing indicators. You might not feel Trump desreves the credit. Personally, I struggle to understand the rudiments of Economics 101, but nonetheless, across all the metrics, the nation is doing much better financially.

    Amirite, @BigLeRoy? @Neomalthusian?

    * Repeal Obamacare and thereby clarify for Americans that the entire rest of the first world nations are correct, and universal health care is an essential part of securing a healthy country. I know he did not pass Trumpcare (thank God), but the repeal of the Obamacare subsidies and penalties or the uninsured, as included in the tax bill he is expected to sign, more or less rip the guts out of that ginormous corporate welfare program.

Now clearly, Trump has done or talked about doing some things I find just as abhorent as my Hillary Clinton-loving, foolish loved ones find them. But he has been in office since January of 2017 without passing a single piece of major legislation. This tax bill he is likely to sign will screw the 99%, but hey. There is another election coming up and most Americans will not be driven into starvation before the Democrats can restore the taxpayer supports for the poor and working poor, through tax relief or CHIPS, or food stamps, or whatever. I don't minimize the harms this law will cause, but their suffering will not be proportionate to the humans killed by Dubya's or Nixon's lies and their warmongering.

Trump wants to fuck vets out of their benefits, yes, but MORE IMPORTANTLY, fewer Americans will see combat under Trump than did so under Dubya, or would have under Hillary.

    Amirite, @namvet69?

Dubya, Nixon and Reagan were surrounded by some of the smartest, most savvy men and women this country has ever produced. Henry Kissinger, Madeline Albright, Edwin Meese, Colin Powel, Condolezza Rice, etc. etc. etc. And while I think Dubya was as dumb as a sack of hair, Nixon was fucking brilliant. Nixon probably actually WAS the devil.

By contrast, Trump is surrounded by fuck ups, morons and traitors who are in the process of ratting one another out, as well as Trump, out to Mueller and most of whom will be VERY fortunate to avoid prison. I can't call Trump "stupid", but he is not brain trust, either. Or maybe he is, and I just can't figure our how?

Lastly, my fellow PHers, I am sure of one thing: the odds that the country will elect a Republican to be president in 2020 are very, very low. I predict we will see another Carter-esque, pendulum-swinging liberal as 46. A man or woman who is a real progressive, I hope, and who will address some of our long-negelected issues and as well as redress what little lasting damage Trump has done to the country.

It demans us all, when Trump says something racist or sexist. More or less, anytime Trump speaks, he embarrasses the entire country. Overseas, the country is baffling, offending and horrifying all our allies (except possibly Israel) and baffling, offending and horrifying our old enemies (except Russia).

I don't deny that Trump gains come at a very high cost, and I wish he would resign already. But he is not the Fourth Horseman of the Apocolyspe, either.

There are worse things than being embarrassed. Those of you who do not support Trump, please reflect on whether your dramatic chipmunk look must be affixed to your face every, single day until he leaves office? I worry that, like my loved ones, you may be sacrificing a portion of your peace of mind and capacity for joy which is harming you, without benefiting anyone else.

Maybe, just maybe, things are not quite that bad?

    Happy holidays, my fellow PHers.

Yeah, that'll work. Suing the suppliers of legitimate pain medication will definitely stop those peddling illicit ones.

    * Make the world aware the U.S. is 100% dedicated to its ally, Israel. Peace in the ME will not be gained by "pushing the Jews into the sea".
Hooray for Israel. Not sure how those of us who aren't Jewish are supposed feel about it.

Do you understand that if you are in debt you don't give away your money to wealthy people and say "fuck you" to people you owe money to? WE ARE BORROWING MONEY FROM CHINA TO DO THIS TAX CUT! And we're ALL going to be stuck paying for it, including interest.

The economy is doing well for now, butifwhen it crashes, we aren't going to be able to bail it out. And thanks in advance for the Medicare and Medicaid cuts that are coming next year.

Destroying the middle class and increasing the nation's poverty level is pretty fucking evil.

I agree that Trump is too stupid and has the charisma of a piranha so he's not the anti-Christ or Satan. Both of whom are said to be quite wily and charming when they need to be. But I think he's doing a great deal of damage along with the mean-spirited, gutless cretins that make up the current Republican party. The republic will survive, but we will pay dearly for this period of Republican control under most hideous president we've ever had. We will pay dearly economically and foreign relations-wise. The nation has been diminished in the eyes of the world. The 20th century may have been the American century but the 21st century most certainly will not be. And, Madeline, you're counting your chickens before they hatch as far as Trump not getting us into war. Because of the mess he's making foreign policy-wise, there will be repercussions.

Can you be evil if you are too senile and lacking in self-knowledge to understand the difference between right and wrong? Your Buffoon is a moral idiot.

I sincerely believe the only reason people voted for him was out of spite. They knew he'd be a shitty president and they thought it would be hilarious to watch Trump take the whole country down while the "establishment" screamed in horror.

I think the average American doesn't have any reason to be so bitter. All in all, Trump voters biggest gripes about Obama boil down to "he wanted to take our guns, the economy is growing too slowly and Obama isn't mean enough to people I hate".

If that's a legitimate argument for destroying the country I think we can safely assume someone's put LSD in our water supply.
