I think the Op captures the Eisenhower brand of conservatism.

Which mostly fits me, but all the self-described conservatives on PH are constantly calling me a f'king liberal.

Which is confusing, as the Hillarybots call me a f'king pinko.

    Which actually is accurate! I'm a progressive/pinko/con-servative!

    Lol.

You will be whatever the ass who opposes your contention wants you to be. It's much easier to lob idiotic labels than to discuss a point. It isn't confined to conservatives either.

To your point. Conservatism in my country is radically different to that in the US. It's not as driven by religion and selfishness and is more fiscal.

    3. Certain institutions and people working within them deserve respect, as a rule. The U.S. military, our police and fire forces, religious leaders, teachers, health care workers.

    4. Government policies should support marriages, families and children. Those policies should not encourage destructive behaviors like opioid drug taking, gambling, careless spending and excessive debt, etc.

Are these still the fundamentals of American conservatives? Did I state them correctly?

    Your thoughts?
Well, there are real conservatives, then there are trump supporters that claim to be conservatives. But they've already proven the lie in that.

A person can support a candidate or politician, even if they reject some of that person's policy choices.

Which is handy, since none of us are likely to find our political doppleganger.

I see you properly omitted 'Party of Family Values'.

The moral and intellectual bankruptcy of the Republican Party

I agree that American conservatives are deeply concerned about responsible spending, at their houses and by the government.

Some liberals appear to believe that discussing funding limits AT ALL is morally repugnant.

The Religious Reich has never seemed to me to be conservative.

You mean marrying your sister or the selling of your neighbor for profit people?
