Conservative and Liberal seem to have evolved into convenient binary labels for insulting. Commonly used to negatively define/paint the other tribe. And for the sake of outrage our tribes are determined to define/paint the opposition with a broad brush based on the actions of the extremes on the spectrum. Fitting for the current polarized state much of our politics is now in.

If there was a magic list of all the issues (social/fiscal/cultural/whatever) and we put that in a big questionnaire....am guessing a overwhelming percentage of the population would end up scoring "Moderate". Lots of Left and Right of center. But not too awful far from the middle.

A handful of big rocks (abortion the biggest/toughest) are going to be difficult forever. But most can be civil even on those topic.

Are you familiar with this questionnaire?

Here is my political compass (from the link above). I took this same test a few years ago. Seems I've drifted a bit more to the left, but still strongly libertarian:

Looks like I'm in good company, the same quadrant as Ghandi:

I wouldn't call myself a Trumpaloompa, but I applaud his good choices.

For example, moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem. Terminating funding for blood money for Arab terrorists. Looking at suing the manufacturer of Oxycotin. Etc.

I would rather have a beer with Obama than with Trump, but neither man is heroic.

MAYBE. I am still suspicious as to why the lifelong friends, Trump and Hillary, were the candidates. Neither primary race looked completely legitimate to my eye.

I think the election was rigged in ways we have yet to see.

I'm in a similar place to you. Slightly more left; slightly less libertarian; and closer to Gandhi.

Thanks from Dittohead not! and Madeline
