Got some political music or protest songs? Maybe we'll discuss them, or maybe we'll just post our own in response, who knows?

I'll kick it off with a controversial and recent release. Maybe you've heard of it. It was posted once on this forum and the thread was immediately closed with no real explanation given, if that tells you anything. Maybe the same will happen to this one. It's all kind of an experiment.

Warning: This video has two instances of firearm violence, one of which is common in dozens of blockbuster movies every year, and one of which... well, you'll see. I kinda don't see what the big deal is as far as realistic gore and violence, I've seen way worse in movies that people absolutely rave about and take their young children to see. It's supposed to make you uncomfortable, though. That's kinda the point.

In any case, there is a lot to unpack and discuss in this video, whether it's the music, visuals, or the message(s). Here's to hoping something productive comes of it.

My Dad was a big Kingston Trio fan. From an early age, I listened to and loved the Merry Minuet:

    They're rioting in Africa
    They're starving in Spain
    There's hurricanes in Florida
    And Texas needs rain
The whole world is festering with unhappy souls
The French hate the Germans, the Germans hate the Poles
Italians hate Yugoslavs, South Africans hate the Dutch
And I don't like anybody very much!!

But we can be tranquil and thankful and proud
For man's been endowed with a mushroom-shaped cloud
And we know for certain that some lovely day
Someone will set the spark off
And we will all be blown away!!

    They're rioting in Africa
    There's strife in Iran
What nature doesn't so to us
Will be done by our fellow man

already a thread on this video. This makes me miss rap and hip hop of the late 80's.

Today we live in a sound byte society
Stuck in an insipid pop culture produced apathy
We've got millions lacking in education
They find free thought to be a frustration
In a constant quest for simplicity
    They're easy prey for demagoguery

    CHORUS
Simple reason to pacify simple minds
In life easy answers are often hard to find
Some things defy logic no matter what you say
Real life's not black and white but many shades of grey

Fanatically religious leaders with divine rights
    Just politicians with extremist eyes
Their fiery rhetoric rejected by the wise
on the foolish masses they've set their sights
Instead so few choose to think
In a sea of ignorance their ship will surely sink

I always thought this song packed a powerful punch for anti-war.

    Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
    Evil minds that plot destruction
    Sorcerers of death's construction
In the fields the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
    Death and hatred to mankind
    Poisoning their brainwashed minds
    Oh lord yeah!

    Politicians hide themselves away
    They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor
    Yeah!

Time will tell on their power minds
    Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait 'til their judgement day comes
    Yeah

Now in darkness world stops turning
    Ashes where the bodies burning
No more war pigs have the power
Hand of God has struck the hour
Day of judgement, God is calling
On their knees the war pig's crawling
    Begging mercy for their sins
    Satan laughing spreads his wings
    oh lord yeah!
