    Overtly Political Music

I'm not sure exactly where to put this since it sort of straddles the line between a Lounge thread and the rest of the forums.

Got some political music or protest songs? Maybe we'll discuss them, or maybe we'll just post our own in response, who knows?

I'll kick it off with a controversial and recent release. Maybe you've heard of it. It was posted once on this forum and the thread was immediately closed with no real explanation given, if that tells you anything. Maybe the same will happen to this one. It's all kind of an experiment.

Warning: This video has two instances of firearm violence, one of which is common in dozens of blockbuster movies every year, and one of which... well, you'll see. I kinda don't see what the big deal is as far as realistic gore and violence, I've seen way worse in movies that people absolutely rave about and take their young children to see. It's supposed to make you uncomfortable, though. That's kinda the point.

In any case, there is a lot to unpack and discuss in this video, whether it's the music, visuals, or the message(s). Here's to hoping something productive comes of it.

And if you manage to get through that without blowing a gasket, try this one on for size. I think the previous video is more interesting musically, but this one's lyrics are more interesting and provoke a more visceral reaction in me. I like it better overall, but I'm much more ambivalent about the ending. The first one I didn't really get on the first or even second watch, and I'm still kind of grokking, but this one hits me in the gut. I have a hard time describing it.

Extra warning: Liberal usage of the N-word. Extremely negative stereotypes. I don't care who you are, if the first couple minutes don't make you squirm, you'll never pass a Turing test. Stick it out and try to reserve your judgement until the end. It may not turn out to be going where you think it is.

Disclaimer: both actors are lip-syncing. And now you know more than I did when I first watched it.

Taxman (Beatles); Sympathy for the Devil (Stones); Revolution (Beatles); Woodstock (Mitchell)

These have been going on since songs were invented.

Nearly every Midnight Oil song qualifies.

Britain's Eurovision entry tonight sang the praises of Europe, with thinly disguised regret at the breakup. Some Brexiteer (possibly) invaded the stage and stole the singers mike! Voting commences. (on the songs!)

This is the song, not the live invasion.
