    Will Trump Do Something Worse?

I feel bad for my colleagues on the right, who find they have to champion someone as embarrassingly unconservative as Donald Trump. It must be very difficult to find your position lead by someone whose capacity for ruthlessness and mendacity is so high. I'm actually really glad we don't have a LEFT-wing populist swamp creature running the country. I like to think that we on the left would eschew someone who lies and dissembles and victimizes the weak, but I have no confidence in that we could not fall for such a demagog.

Now Trump has done something that very few people can defend, something so horrible that even his supporters denounce his action.

My question is, how long will it be before he does something worse? Is it possible? Is he PLANNING something worse because he thinks it plays so well for his base? I think scenes of crying children and immigrants fighting with ICE officers in sanctuary cities is just around the corner.

I think David Brooks is right in this column, where he points out that Trump and his closest supporters aren't conservatives, they are merely anti-liberal trolls. They really have no agenda beyond countering whatever people on the left seek to do.
What’s most significant is this: The Trump administration immigration officials have become exactly the kind of monsters that conservatism has always warned against.

For centuries, conservatives have repeated a specific critique against state power. Statism, conservatives have argued, has a tendency to become brutalist and inhumane because a bureaucracy can’t see or account for the complexity of reality. It tries to impose uniform rules on the organic intricacy of human relationships. Statist social engineering projects cause horrific suffering because in the mind of statists, the abstract rule is more important than the human being in front of them. The person must be crushed for the sake of the abstraction.

    [....]

This illustrates something crucial about this administration. It is not populated by conservatives. It is populated by anti-liberal trolls. There’s a difference.
People like Stephen Miller are not steeped in conservative thinking and do not operate with a conservative disposition. They were formed by their rebellion against the stifling conformity they found at liberal universities. Their primary orientation is not to conservative governance but to owning the libs. In power they take the worst excesses of statism and flip them for anti-liberal ends.

Trumpists don't oppose oppressive government power--they merely seek to harness it for their own ends.

I've been saying this all along. For most Trump supporters it's about giving liberals the finger. And Brooks makes a good point about them and statism. They're fine with it as long as they're the ones in power. They're raging hypocrites.

This is also why Trumpaloompas are so at ease over his wholesale failure to deliver on any of his campaign promises. The promise they REALLY care about -- making "the left" explode with outrage, etc. -- is fulfilled, over and over, beyond their wildest dreams.

    From Josh Marshall:

The President says he’s signing an executive order to end family separations. The actual aim seems to be to pick a fight with the courts and allow separations to continue while blaming judges. According to The New York Times, the President will sign an executive order allowing children to be detained indefinitely with their parents. The problem is that that violates a 1997 consent decree saying that you can’t detain/imprison children for more than 20 days (technically what’s currently happening isn’t detention). It straight up violates that order. So what will almost inevitably happen is that a court will step in, say you can’t do that and then Trump will announce that the judge is forcing him to keep separating families.

Yes....Trump's whole life has been guided by his lack of morality.
To him there is no right vs wrong...there is only winning vs losing and the issues he fights for are ego driven only.

He will do anything necessary to achieve a "Win" in his mind.
He WILL most definitely do much worse unless we voters stop him by unseating his Republican enablers in Congress on 11/6/18......all of them!

I do not waste my sympathy on those who support Trump and put him in office!

My sympathy goes to all those scared, crying children!I have not the slightest qualm of throwing every one of them in jail and do the same thing to them they are doing to those children!

No, I do not have the slightest sympathy for Trump apologists! If I go to hell for this I will have the pleasure of watching them suffer

    great thread.
    Thanks.

One thing I've notice that's not really focused on in the reporting of Trump. It's the way he rants like a mad man during his rallies. His tortured voice dialed up to such a high volume it can barely contain the hatred coming out. Seeing the audience cheer that on is one of the most sadistic things I've ever seen. This guy is the president of the United States. The so-called leader of the free world. Yet, he stands up on stage screaming about how Democrat's prefer "foreigners" like a rabid junk yard dog barking. You get the sense that he's venting all of his frustration in being constrained by our checks and balances. He feeds off of the adulation like an addict that craves their drugs. More disturbing , is how he delights in the idea of inciting the audience to become his foot soldiers in destroying who ever he tells them to. This is a dark time for American.
