Comparing city folk to country folk and thinking one is better than the other is about as logical as comparing stay at home moms to working moms. Everybody lives their life the way they best see fit.

I didn't say you, did I? It would appear your non-Democrat, rural neighbors, the one's attributed with electing Trump (the forgotten rural working class conservatives) think, as I said, their savior is none other than as mentioned.

I guess they forgot to look under the hood or kick the tires or basically think about the contradiction of who they elected as their leader.

I've lived in plenty of rural places in my life, just as I do now, many of them are dying because they don't want anything to change, but the world is changing around them. There is a reason people/we live in rural places and it's because of what you have mentioned. You would think the last person in the world a rural person would want for POTUS is a billionaire real estate developer from one of the largest cities in the world who is into opulence, but that's what we have got.

I can tell you though that there is a means to direct development, because you're unlikely to stop it, anymore than the First People were able to. Aside from farming and in some cases small farmers have been put out of business by corporate farming (talk about trends, investors and banksters), in order to live in a rural area, you still need a job and work, so you have money to put food on the table, etc. Some rural towns are looking to ways to attract visitors, without destroying the rural character of where they live. Tourism does not have to always be ***** tonk and you redirect those banksters and investors to do some nice restoration work of historical buildings in rural towns and get some business going so you and others, like me, can still have my rural cake and eat it too. There is something to be said for using existing buildings.....especially the ones that were solidly built, fix them up and put businesses back in them and accommodation so you don't have a bunch of people buying up all the land, putting huge country McMansions all over open farmland and forest and driving up prices. Use some old farm buildings.....silos.....let the investors and banksters put money into restoration and renovation, not a lot of new construction that only eats up more rural land. Open some nice shops (they don't have to be boutiquey, just nice shops and businesses in refreshed buildings and get people to come visit, but not stay or own acreage.....Too much new development, eats up the land everyone who lives in rural areas love......but there is still a lot of investment, banking and "trendy" potential in what's already there in lots of places. I have been all over the country and in other countries and there are examples of too much and poorly done development and just the right amount, well done and making use of existing structures development. Both can be thriving, one sort of development becomes a scar on the land and a no man's land that takes up land, involving strip mall development others are like renovating a beautiful old abandoned or rarely used house. It does not put new structures on and use up rural land. Just a few thoughts. The problem really boils down to too many people and the need to accommodate them is like puddles in a rain storm, it keeps getting bigger and spreading out, eating up rural lands in the process.

Karl Marx said that cities saved humankind from the idiocy of rural life.

I kinda reckon you don't cotton to that there quote.
