The Success Ethic, Education, and the American Dream - Joseph L. DeVitis, John Martin Rich - Google Books

This is an excellent piece on how rugged individualism stretches back to the progressive era's social gospel back when the Republican Party stood for advocating social programs in order to accommodate big business while assimilating immigrants into the workforce.

It's a shame how Hispanics are falling for the same old song and dance because Republicans are too afraid to stand up for what they believe in. They problem is it's been carrying on for so long that they've lost their social support, and now, it would take tremendous sacrifice for people to respect each other as innocent before proven guilty, not expecting them to prove their worth.

We even admit that American education is falling apart, but still, we support "stupid is cool" work ethic.
