Black workers' lawsuit claims Tesla is a hotbed for racism

Tesla’s production floor is a "hotbed for racist behavior," more than 100 African-American employees claimed in a lawsuit in which they alleged black workers at the electric car maker suffer severe and pervasive harassment. The employees are seeking permission from a judge to sue as a group and are seeking unspecified general and punitive monetary damages as well as an order for Tesla to implement policies to prevent and correct harassment.
The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Marcus Vaughn, who worked in the Fremont factory from April 23 to Oct. 31. Vaughn alleged that employees and supervisors regularly used the “N word” around him and other black colleagues. Vaughn said he complained in writing to human resources and Musk and was terminated in late October for "not having a positive attitude."

hardly seems believable in this day and age.

Especially in such a "progressive" company.

Yet another reason not to buy a Tesla?

none of that matters if it's proven true.

Have to wait and see if its true or not.

Doesn't sound like something Musk would put up with if he was informed about it.

Tesla can't afford any more bad rep.

Have heard Musk himself is considered quite a racist. Allegations have been around for years. Also according to Bloomberg, he sent out an email regarding this..

"According to Monday’s complaint, Musk sent an email to Tesla factory employees.
“Part of not being a huge jerk is considering how someone might feel who is part of [a] historically less represented group,” Musk wrote in the email. “Sometimes these things happen unintentionally, in which case you should apologize. In fairness, if someone is a jerk to you, but sincerely apologizes, it is important to be thick-skinned and accept that apology.”

“The law doesn’t require you to have a thick skin,” Organ said in an interview Monday. "Tesla is not doing enough. It’s somewhat akin to saying ‘stop being politically correct.’ When you have a diverse workforce, you need to take steps to make sure everyone feels welcome in that workforce."

These high tech companies seem to treat their workers dreadfully. Amazon's warehouse workers complain of conditions that sound Dickensian.

Although no complaints about racism. That one is a puzzler.

Maybe Musk is just a greedy corporate pig like so many others.

Maybe he doesn't care about racism, as long as they turn a profit.

Maybe Tesla will shut down production in the US and move overseas.

Just because he has a company that is admired by many doesn't mean we know what kind of guy he is...

We seldom REALLY know celebs, athletes, leaders of industry.

Just because we know who they are, doesn't mean we know them.

All true. However, I sort of assumed that highly intelligent, creative people are free of racism.

    Apparently not.

Plus, surely Musk realizes how destructive to his brand a charge like this could be. No matter how wealthy he is, he must grasp that others will be vital to his success.

Imagine if the Apple brand had been tainted in this way in the 1990's, before their firm domination was established.

I don't know, my experience at Amazon was positive. Maybe its particular warehouses. Yes, during the christmas season (only worked there a month) its 5 11 hour days which is rough, but they were very appreciative of hard work, at least where I worked
