No... that change (from my outside perspective) shifted under Obama's radicalization program.

What you are seeing under trump is mostly a result of that radicalization.

Haven't noticed any uptick in my world. But it appears the SPLC has determined hate crimes are up due to Trump.

Interesting article. Although the BLS statistics cited are a little confusing.

"The number of hate crimes reached a five-year high in 2016, taking a noticeable uptick toward the end of the year around Donald Trumpís surprise electoral college victory.

The FBI, in a report released Monday, said law enforcement agencies nationally reported a five-year high in hate crimes, with 6,121 in 2016. Thatís up over 2015, which saw 5,818 such crimes reported, a near 5% increase.

However, 88% of participating law enforcement agencies reported no hate crimes in their jurisdictions, an ongoing challenge for data collection efforts. In comparison, the Bureau of Justice Statistics estimates that an annual average of 250,000 incidents of hate crime victimization, about 40 times the number reported by the FBI."

I mainly noticed it during campaign season. It was noticeable. It came from Trump supporters around me. It was a feeling of gaining license or confirmation on something they'd thought or wanted to say all along. It's ugly.

People became more "in your face" with it starting when Trump entered the race. With one prime example being Ann Coulter saying that Nikki Haley as a 2nd generation American born to legal immigrants wasn't American enough to appreciate our history and shouldn't have been allowed to be born here. I _think_ they got a little more in-your-face as Trump came closer and closer to being the official face of the formerly Grand Old Party.

It got worse as Trump was ushered into office.

And then there were the "very fine people" carrying torches and Nazi flags after he became president. And he tweets the posts of anti-Semites and other racists. So maybe it did get worse after he took office.

But the acceleration of atrocity has slowed down. We've mostly been in a holding pattern for the last year. Most of America has more decency than Trump. Probably even most white supremacists have more decency than Trump. Maybe things are as bad as they're going to get.

    I can hope.

Just the fact that racism is blamed on Obama confirms the second option.
